11 Times Celebrities’ Shoes Overshadowed Their Gorgeous Outfits

It is a celebrity’s job to attract attention, and they often do it with the help of stunning red carpet outfits. Sometimes, they go for gorgeous and stylish dresses, or on the contrary, choose something weird and extravagant. But occasionally, they decide to focus everyone’s attention on their shoes, and we’ve found instances where it was their unusual footwear that stole the show.

For the premiere of the movie Maleficent, Angelina decided to wear an outfit that would reflect this famous story. So, together with Christian Louboutin, they came up with white shoes that had sculpted spike heels with drops of blood. These drops represented how Sleeping Beauty pricked her finger on a spinning wheel.

Blake Lively

For one of her recent red carpet appearances, Blake Lively chose to wear a monochromatic look — a red dress embellished with crystals and red Manolo Blahnik pumps. Unfortunately, the white jewels on the shoes didn’t match her all-red outfit, so she decided to paint them with nail polish. Later, she apologized to the designer for doing this.

Elle Fanning

The Loewe brand became one of the main fashion sensations last year after introducing sandals with campy heels in the shape of unusual objects, like a bottle of nail polish, a rose, a cake candle, or a cracked egg. These shoes were often discussed in the media, but they never appeared on the red carpet as a part of some celebrity’s outfit. Elle Fanning became one of the first to don this surreal footwear. “An egg-cellent outfit for the morning,” she captioned her Instagram photo.

Lady Gaga tends to choose outfits that help her stand out on the red carpet. And she definitely knows how to steal the show with her choice of crazy footwear. For example, the singer once appeared in leather boots with heels that were 9 inches tall. Very few people would dare to wear these shoes off stage, but Lady Gaga can even walk city streets in them.

Helena Bonham Carter

We love Helena Bonham Carter for her ability to look weird in the best sense of this word. In 2011, the actress walked the Golden Globes red carpet in the shoes that were different colors — one shoe was green, and the other one was red.

When asked about them, she said, “Why not wear mismatching shoes? Who says we can’t? I was just having fun. For me, fashion is all about fantasy and putting unlikely things together. That’s what I love. I genuinely love dressing up.”

Celine Dion

Celine Dion has a collection of more than 10,000 pairs of shoes which she has to keep in a special warehouse in Las Vegas. And she obviously has a few outstanding pairs in this huge variety of footwear. One of the singer’s most expensive pairs of shoes are her Saint Laurent boots covered in crystals. Despite their ultraglamorous design, Dion is happy to wear them almost every day and pairs them with casual clothing, like black jeans and a black bomber jacket.

Sandra Bullock

Sandra Bullock stole the show in 2015 when she appeared wearing custom-made shoes at the premiere of Minions. The pumps featured the henchmens’ eyes on the front and lash-like hair on the back. Later, a few replicas of the heels, autographed by Bullock, were sold during Charity Buzz’s auction.

Sarah Jessica Parker

In 2019, Sarah Jessica Parker appeared on the red carpet sporting a stunning pink floor-length dress paired with no less stunning shoes. The actress chose to wear mismatching heels, one of which matched the color of the dress, while the other one was its golden yellow version. Perhaps, she tried to recreate a fashion faux pas of her famous character, Carrie Bradshaw, who once put on mismatching shoes in one of the Sex and the City episodes.

Kim Kardashian

When Kim Kardashian wasn’t yet a style icon, she often made fashion mistakes during her first pregnancy. Once, she chose to wear plastic sandals with ankle straps. But she didn’t take into account the fact that legs and feet tend to become swollen during pregnancy. And paparazzi were fast enough to capture this moment on camera and share the resulting photos with numerous tabloids.

Dua Lipa

Knee-high or thigh-high boots are always a bold choice for the red carpet. But Dua Lipa took the look to greater heights when she wore waist-high boots to the 2017 ASCAP Awards. The singer chose to wear one boot top folded down, perhaps show off her star-embroidered dress.

Frances McDormand

We’ve gotten used to the idea that celebrities wear the most gorgeous and glamorous outfits at the Oscars. But Frances McDormand doesn’t think she should comply with any dress code, except the one she chooses. In 2019, she took to the stage wearing an elegant floor-length dress and a pair of custom yellow suede Birkenstocks. This ensemble, which combined haute couture and comfort, became the boldest outfit at that event.
