Bonus: Gary Oldman, his 99-year-old mother Kay, and the Oscar
No one had ever doubted the talent of Gary Oldman, but the long-cherished Oscar has been missing in his collection of other awards for many years. Finally, in 2018, the actor received a statuette for playing the role of Winston Churchill in Darkest Hour. He came up to the stage a little nervous and gave perhaps one of the most touching speeches at the ceremony.
“Most of all, I’d like to thank my mother who is older than the Oscar — she is 99 years young. She’s watching the ceremony from the comfort of her sofa and I say to my mother ’Thank you for your love and support! Put the kettle on — I’m bringing Oscar!’ ”Gary Oldman
The actor kept his promise and brought the statue to his mother. As it turned out, she has been dreaming of this award for her son since he became an actor and now her wish has finally come true.
