Matt Damon met his wife, Luciana, in 2003, and 2 decades later, they’re still beaming with love for one another. The actor adopted Alexia, Luciana’s daughter from her previous marriage, and they welcomed 3 daughters of their own, each born 2 years apart. Damon is a doting father of 4, and he has a couple of rules he swears by, that have helped his family thrive.

The Damons have one rule: they can’t ever be apart for longer than 2 weeks. The actor sometimes takes a red-eye flight, just to be able to spend a few hours with his wife and daughters at home. This allows the busy actor to prioritize his family. And his kids know that no matter what, Dad will be home every single weekend.

Damon doesn’t want to raise entitled kids.

One of the perks of being an A-lister actor is that companies will send you loads of free stuff. Anytime boxes of free toys arrive, Damon doesn’t even open them and immediately sends the goodies to people who need them.

“My kids don’t need anything. This is the life we’re giving them. It’s hard to figure out how to try to give them perspective. It’s a source of tension in the family at times,” the actor shared.

Fatherhood has completely changed Damon’s view on having kids.

The Martian actor said the one thing that scared him about having kids was bodily fluids. He shared, “I probably worried more about changing diapers and bodily fluids and all that before I became a father. The reality is that once it’s your kid it’s not a big deal at all.” To end on a humorous note, he added, “I probably wouldn’t want to change YOUR kid.”

Quite regularly, The Martian actor is the only man in the room. Being surrounded by 4 daughters has taught him that “...girls are much smarter. I operated under the assumption that we guys had a chance, but I realized when I was completely wrapped around my 2-year-old’s finger, that she knew it.”
