10 Ways to Make Your Eyes Look Bigger

Every girl dreams of having big and expressive eyes. With advice and tricks from makeup artists from all around the world, you can easily make your eyes look more attractive and expressive.

We at Bright Side would like to share with you some secrets for how to make your eyes look bigger.

1. To create the effect of big eyes, use double shadow.

Famous Hollywood makeup artist Jake Bailey advises using two different eye shadow shades from the same color family. This will instantly help you create the effect of big eyes.

2. Place the shades correctly.

Well-known makeup artist Sarah Lucero (among her clients are Katherine Heigl and Olivia Wilde) gives advice on how to give your face the "doe-eyed" look. "The most important thing is adding more color at the middle of the lash line. Focus on the middle part of the upper eyelid because this is the widest part of your eye shape. This will help to emphasize where you can create smoother and lighter lines along the upper eyelid."

3. Don’t be afraid to use bright eye pencils and eyeliners.

"Try to experiment with blue or purple shades of eyeliner," says makeup artist Laura Geller. Everything that seems bright can make the eyes look bigger. When used properly, these pencil colors give the eyes incredible depth.

4. For an open look, follow "the crease rule."

Makeup artist Joanna Schlip, who works with Madonna and Angelina Jolie, explains "the crease rule," as everyone has this crease on their upper eyelid. "Apply liner only up to the crease line. This will help you highlight your natural eye contour." Click here to see more step-by-step instructions.

5. The ombré technique isn't just for hair.

Maybelline makeup artist Charlotte Willer suggests taking note of the ombré technique. The trick is to use a lighter shade to match the eyes and a darker shade of the same shadow in the creases of the eyelids. This method makes the eyes look bigger.

6. Beige shades add more naturalness to makeup.

To make the eyes look bigger without using a lot of eye shadows, apply pearl-colored eyeliner along the inner corner of the eye. Beige and brown eyeliners look more natural than pure white and shimmery ones.

7. Contour the eyes for a bright look.

To give the eyes more expression, apply a light brown shadow to the upper and lower eyelids. Highlight the outer corner of the eye with light and pearl-colored shades. Don't forget to apply white eye shadow under the eyebrow so you can make the eyes even brighter.

8. The classic smoky eye technique is perfect for creating a dramatic look.

Creating any makeup starts with lining the lash line. To make the eyes look less dark, apply nude eye shadow to the entire eyelid, and then use a pencil. First apply it along the upper lash line, then along the bottom lash line. Blend these lines to create a smoky effect. Highlight the corner of the eye with white shadow.

9. Use eye shadows for lining the eyes.

Brown and pearl-colored shades can make your eyes look fresh and open. Start with applying white pencil to the inner corners of the eyes. Then apply the main shade to the entire eyelid. Line the upper lash line with a brown or gray shade. Use a pearl-colored shade for the bottom lash line.

10. Highlight the contour of the eyes with shimmery eye shadow.

Bright shimmery shades or an eyeliner are also perfect for highlighting the eye shape. For a more open look, contour your eyes with these shades. This way it will brighten your makeup.
