One woman described how she discovered her first gray hairs and when she stopped dyeing them to make her hair look more natural. Her story inspired Bright Side readers to share on Facebook when they stopped dyeing their hair, making room for the all-natural grays and also how they felt empowered amid something that’s still a taboo in our society due to its beauty standards and the never-ending search for eternal youth.

Bright Side “rescued” the most interesting anecdotes that readers shared on the web about their gray hair and the emotions it evoked in them.

I stopped dyeing my hair 1 1/2 ago so it's white and black on the upper half and total black on the bottom (past dye). And everyone asks if I dyed it like this and people love it. makes me love it??

My dad had grey hair since his mid-30s and he used to be really good looking :) My mom, on the other hand, hates her grey hair and she always dyes them. But I really like a natural look. I think that when I see my first grey hair I will let it become a dozen :D I wonder how I'd look.

I've always had premature gray hair, since I was 15. It definitely has passed down in the family! I started dyeing my hair when I was around 38 to Last October 24, 2019.

I decided to stop dyeing my hair, and accept the beauty of my hair and myself.

I'm 47 and I didn't want to keep paying for the hair dyes;

It's best to show the next generation that

"Having gray hair does mean, Have Fun, and Be Yourself"

My mom started getting gray hair at 18. She dyed it for a little while, maybe a year or so, but then she stopped. Her hair looks all silvery, with lots of streaks and honestly looks pretty amazing. Unfortunately other people don't see it that way. When I was a kid, people would ask "Is she your grandma?" and I was always like "Dude, she only had me when she was 35!" People have become more understanding over the years though. Once a 6 year old told her she looked like Princess Anna from Frozen because of her white streaks! I love that she doesn't care what other people think of her hair, and that she thinks people shouldn't hide their natural selves. I don't think I'm ever going to dye my hair, unless it's like purple for a month or something just for fun.
