6 Money-Saving Beauty Tips That Can Transform Your Hair
The topic of hair care is always popular and it is not surprising, since according to different studies, beautiful hair is considered to be one of the main signs of female beauty and health. However, if you want to have healthy beautiful hair, it doesn’t mean that you need to have expensive procedures in a salon. In fact, all you have to do is not to get lost in a huge amount of information, learn to tell the truth from the myths, and find out more about the useful qualities of things you have at home.
Bright Side decided to make this task simpler for you: we spent some time learning about some subtleties, dispelled popular myths, and made a compilation of effective care tips.
1. Soap, lip balm, and gelatin will help you deal with curly hair.
Unfortunately, taking care of curly hair can be really challenging at times. It is amazing but really unusual products can help you deal with this problem. For example, in order to make the locks heavier, you need to apply a wet scented soap. Another thing you can use is lip balm that works just like hair wax and helps to deal with hair that is hard to comb. If you have more time and you want a more complex solution to the problem, you can make a gelatin mask that can laminate your hair.
You will need:
- some gelatin powder;
- hair balm;
- mineral water (not necessary);
- egg yolk (not necessary).
Mix 1 tbsp of gelatin powder in 3 tbsp of water (you can use mineral water to achieve better results.) Make sure all the gelatin is dissolved (the mixture might need some heating) and add just a bit of hair balm. To make the hair stronger, you can also add one egg yolk. Cool down the solution and put it on your hair, a few inches from the skin. Then, put a shower cap on and cover your hair with a towel for 40 minutes. This mask will make your hair shiny and smooth.
2. Choose the right type of brush.
As you have probably already noticed, hair health depends on mechanical manipulations that you do to it. So, of course, choosing the right hair brush and using it correctly is vital if you want healthy hair. When your hair is dry, experts recommend using a massaging brush. Aside from brushing the hair well, such brushes also massage the head which is really useful for the hair follicles. And it also spreads the sebum produced by the skin and that makes the hair shiny.
Wet hair should not be brushed at all because it is very vulnerable to damage. However, you can still do it but only after it dries just a little. It should be a wide tooth comb and you should be careful not to remove the tangled hair.
3. Egg mask to increase the speed of hair growth.
Hair consists of mostly proteins and amino acids, and eggs are full of these elements which makes them one of the best things to use if you want to have beautiful hair. Egg yolk makes the hair strong and soft, it prevents hair from breakage, and stimulates hair growth. Honey is a great hair conditioner that makes your hair very soft. Castor oil has been known to stimulate hair growth.
You will need:
- 2 tbsp castor oil;
- 1 egg yolk;
- 1 tbsp organic honey.
You should mix the ingredients well, apply the mixture to your hair, and massage the roots carefully. Then, wrap your head in plastic wrap or wear a shower cap and leave the mixture on your hair for a couple of hours. Then, wash your hair with shampoo and with hair conditioner. Repeat the procedure 2 times a week and just a few months later, you will notice an impressive result of your effort.
4. Homemade dry shampoo to keep your hair fresh for a long time.
Dry shampoo is used to clean the hair without using water. Despite the fact that such shampoos are usually made of a lot of different elements that are hard to come by, it’s actually really simple to make this shampoo at home:
You will need:
- 2 tbsp cornstarch;
- 2 tbsp cacao powder (for dark hair);
- 5-6 drops of some essential oil of your choice (not necessary);
- a wide makeup brush.
Mix all the ingredients in a bowl. Put the mixture in a bottle or somewhere else. In the first case, before using, you should shake the bottle well and then spread the mixture all over the hair. If you are using a brush, you should put a little bit of powder on the roots, wait for it to absorb the extra sebum, and then brush the hair thoroughly. Finally, use a hair dryer to remove the remaining pieces of the shampoo and make the hair more voluminous.
5. The secret of taking care of dry ends.
This method won’t help you get rid of split ends because it can’t repair them as effectively as a gelatin mask. But it’s great for dealing with dry ends and it’s good for the gradual treatment of split ends if you use this method on a regular.
So, it’s quite simple: before washing your hair, put some balm on the hair tips. And as for the roots, put some shampoo on them as usual and spread the foam all over the hair. The point is that the balm won’t let the shampoo be too aggressive to the dry part of the hair and won’t let it afflict more damage. Also, there is another option: use a conditioner before washing the hair, not after. It is believed that this method is great for the hair structure.
6. Getting rid of dandruff
Aspirin is known for its ability to relieve the pain from minor injuries and it is also believed to be an effective ingredient in many beauty recipes. One of the uses concerns the health of your hair — specifically the scalp. Aspirin can be used to fight dandruff.
What you need to do is crush several pills, mix them with your regular shampoo, and apply it to your scalp. Leave the mixture for a few minutes and then wash it off well.
Next, massage a mixture of aspirin and hot water into your scalp, leave it for 10 minutes, and then wash it off. Then carefully dry your hair with a towel. Aspirin contains salicylic acid that is used in many anti-dandruff shampoos.
Dispelling popular myths and misconceptions
- Myth #1: Trimming your hair regularly will make it grow faster.
Despite the simplicity and the appeal, this version is completely wrong. The speed of hair growth directly depends on the follicles on the head that can be stimulated by massaging, masks, oils, and vitamins. Having your hair cut often only makes the hair appear more healthy.
- Myth #2: We should wash our hair before getting it cut.
Many people find it logical to wash your hair right before going to a beauty salon. But in fact, it’s best if you do it one day before visiting a hairdresser. The thing is, your hairdresser will be able to see all the flaws of your hair which are really hard to determine if your hair is clean.
- Myth #3: In order to keep your hair healthy, you need to use professional cosmetics.
This is another popular misconception. Of course, there is some truth in it, especially if you choose a product matching your hair type. But still, a high price doesn’t always mean that you bought a good thing. And you can see good effects with cheaper alternatives of expensive shampoos and conditioners — just pay attention to the ingredients. A good shampoo shouldn’t contain any paraben or phthalate.
- Myth #4: You make your hair weak by washing it every day.
This popular idea causes a lot of doubts and arguments. But experts still believe that people confuse the cause and the effect. Your hair may be damaged not because you wash it, but because you use a hairdryer after that and that definitely damages it. Also, if you brush your hair often, you can’t avoid damaging it. But if you use a soft shampoo that doesn’t remove the natural sebum from the skin, there is no damage whatsoever.
