If You’re Tired of Having an Itchy Scalp, Here’s What You Need to Know

An itchy scalp can often be accompanied by dandruff and there are many reasons that can trigger this condition. Psoriasis, eczema, a fungal infection, diabetes, dermatitis, and dry skin are just a few of the causes. If you have an itchy scalp, don’t panic: there are natural remedies that can help you get rid of this annoying problem.
1. Apple cider vinegar
Daily use of shampoos, conditioners, and other hair products cause residue build-up. The acetic acid found in apple cider vinegar (ACV) fights the residue while its antibacterial and antifungal properties make the skin healthy and clean. To make a DIY hair rinse dilute 2-4 tbsp of ACV (use organic ACV like the one in the photo) with 1 cup of warm water. Massage this mixture into your scalp after washing the hair, let it sit for a couple of minutes and rinse with water.
2. Aloe vera
Dry skin is one of the factors that can make your scalp feel itchy. Aloe vera acts as a natural moisturizer and has antimicrobial and soothing properties. Apply the gel from an Aloe vera leaf onto your scalp, let it sit for 20 minutes and wash your head with warm water. Do this DIY hair spa twice a week until you see results.
3. Tea tree oil
Tea tree oil has strong anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial properties that can effectively fight that itching sensation. It also combats viruses and fungi that can cause dandruff and an itchy scalp. Add a few drops of tea tree oil into your favorite natural shampoo and use regularly until your scalp condition improves.
4. Coconut oil
Coconut oil is another natural moisturizer that can fight the problem of an itchy scalp. Slightly heat the coconut oil, massage it into your scalp and apply all over the hair twice a week. The oil will soothe an irritated scalp and nourish your hair.
5. Raw honey
Raw honey is another natural product with strong antimicrobial properties and vitamins B2 and B5 that soothe inflamed skin. To make a DIY mask mix 9 parts raw honey with 1 part warm water. Wash your hair and while it is still damp massage the mask into your scalp for 2-3 minutes. Wrap your head in a towel and let it sit for 3 hours before rinsing the mask off with water.
6. Olive oil
Massage a small amount of olive oil into your scalp, cover your head with a shower cap and let it sit for 4 to 6 hours or overnight. Wash your hair with a natural shampoo. This remedy will soothe an itchy scalp, moisturize, and nourish your skin.
7. Avocado and banana
Mash and mix 2 bananas and 1 avocado, and rub the mixture into your scalp. Let it sit for 30 minutes then rinse it off with water. Apart from being effective in fighting an itchy scalp, this remedy can improve hair growth, make your hair shinier and it smells fantastic!
Regularly brush and massage your scalp in gentle circular motions. This will speed up blood flow, remove dry skin cells and stimulate hair roots. It's good to brush your hair before shampooing to remove dry cells and prepare the scalp for cleansing.
9. Clean brushes and combs.
The problem of an itchy scalp can sometimes be connected to personal hygiene. Avoid sharing your hair brushes and combs with other people and regularly clean these items to make sure no bacteria attacks your hair and skin.
Physical exercises improve blood flow which means the cells in your body receive as many vital elements, including oxygen, as necessary. Proper blood circulation reduces the inflammation associated with an itchy scalp.
