Real “Alpha” Men Tend to Be Respectful and Chill People: 15 Traits That Should Define Them

Alpha men have, for a long time, been considered to be overtly macho men that don’t care about anything but themselves, but this is a common misconception. Being alpha is far from what people think, and this negative stereotype needs to be shattered once and for all.

Today, Bright Side wants to get rid of that negative stereotype by highlighting what truly makes a man alpha, and it is not what most are expecting. Let’s look at some common myths about the alpha male.

1. He values his body and health.

Healthiness starts from within. Failing to remain physically healthy will also have an effect on your mind, and it will change people’s perception of you. So, alpha males always strive to remain in great health by eating well and working out.

2. He isn’t scared to say what’s on his mind.

Alpha men are not the type of people to bite their tongue for anybody. Many times, we are afraid to say what’s on our mind in fear that we will offend somebody, or to just simply avoid confrontation. However, alpha men do not succumb to this fear and they always say what is honestly on their mind, despite what the repercussions might be.

3. He isn’t afraid to say no.

In life, you will often be asked to do a favor for somebody. However, it is important to measure the cost and benefits first in order to not be a pushover. Alpha males are not afraid to look out for their best interests and say “no” without feeling like they need to explain their decision.

4. He is well-read.

This doesn’t mean that all alpha males are intellectuals, but rather that they have a deep understanding of the world and the way it works. This is because they read extensively, and their superiority comes from their spirit or personality, rather than from their physical strength.

5. He is emotionally intelligent.

Emotional intelligence refers to the ability to control your emotions and approach relationships with more empathy. The 5 key characteristics of emotional intelligence are motivation, self-regulation, self-awareness, empathy, and social skill. These are also the key characteristics of an alpha male.

6. He holds himself with confidence.

Alpha males always carry themselves upright, never slouch forward, and look you in the eye (and not at the floor) with confidence when engaged in a conversation.

7. He is assertive.

Alpha males clearly know what they want in life and are not afraid to go after it. They are willing to do whatever it takes to get to their goal, and they proudly own their desires and ambitions. They are not the type to actively seek out confrontation, but they also understand that remaining passive is not the solution to conflict.

8. He is a gentleman.

True alpha men are kind to others, but they don’t fall into the category of “nice guys,” since they understand that they always have to prioritize their well-being before anyone else’s. Also, they are kind when there is nothing to gain from it, without having ulterior motives.

9. He doesn’t take himself too seriously.

If you don’t mind having a good laugh at yourself, nobody will be able to publicly ridicule you. Alpha males understand the difference between self-respect and ego, and they know that one small mistake isn’t the end of the world. They are able to look at the larger picture without acting from a place of ego.

10. He seeks genuine connection.

Alpha males greatly value things like intimacy and emotional connection and are not after quick flings. Since they are confident and share positive emotions in their interactions with others, this attracts people to them and they are able to attract women with high values, just like them.

11. He trusts himself.

So, this allows alpha males to be in full control of their lives. They are humble enough to ask for help, but ultimately, they trust their desires enough to make important choices on their own.

12. He faces his problems head-on.

Alpha males have no issue facing their demons. They acknowledge a certain problem and do everything in their power to fix it.

13. He acknowledges his weaknesses.

Alpha males never have a “know-it-all” attitude. They understand that they might need help in an area they are weak in, and they are not embarrassed to ask others for it.

14. He has nothing to prove.

Alpha males are comfortable in their own skin, so their natural confidence and positivity make them desirable to other people without them even trying.

15. He communicates with class and respect.

They don’t try to make others feel bad for disagreeing with them, and when faced with rejection, they don’t feel the need to do certain things to prove their worth.
