It's a problem for me too

I personally think that if parents (especially those who don't spend much time with kids as you mention) start limiting their kids' time online, it will only break the last connection they have with their parents. I have 4 younger siblings, and if our parents tried to do that, it would be a catastrophe. Sometimes it's too late for parents to intervene, it's already up to kids. So no, I do not recommend parents whose kids are 12+ years old and who don't have strong relationships with them to do that. It will only lead to even worse consequences. But yes - build the trust between you and your kids from the very beginning and spend as much time with them as you can.

I agree with you, instead they should enter the world of their childeren and try to bond again from the inside, maybe then you can take steps to expand your kids world

I feel they just brushed away a few other things in today's society that causes young people to be depressed like bullying, cyber-bullying, student loans, body pressure, growing up too fast, news channels, etc. so much worse

Chuck Palahniuk knew why...

"...advertising has us chasing cars and clothes, working jobs we hate so we can buy shit we don't need. We're the middle children of the history man, no purpose or place, we have no Great war, no Great depression, our great war is a spiritual war, our great depression is our lives, we've been all raised by television to believe that one day we'd all be millionaires and movie gods and rock stars, but we won't and we're slowly learning that fact. and we're very very pissed off.”

I think it is because nowadays parents don't realize what kids want... They don't free them.
