Celebrities who open up about their sexuality and identity can help dispel LGBTQ+ misconceptions and raise people’s self-esteem by demonstrating that successful people are becoming prominent advocates for them.

Some celebrities are breaking down barriers and living courageously as their genuine selves. So, Bright Side compiled a list for you of those in the public eye that express their sexuality in the most unfettered way imaginable.

1. Angelina Jolie

Angelina has frequently admitted to liking both men and women. The actress is proud to speak her truth and serve as encouragement for people who are afraid to come out. She described herself as a “very sexual person who loves who she loves, whatever sex they may be.”

2. Lil Nas X

Following the success of his popular song, Old Town Road, Lil Nas X came out as gay, but he wasn’t entirely sure about speaking his truth to the media. The rapper said that he had serious doubts about coming out as gay, but that his rise to fame ultimately pushed him to do so.

“I 100% want to represent the LGBT community, I don’t want to encourage them to do something they don’t 100% want to do. Especially in, like, middle school or high school. Because it’s just super hard,” the rapper declared.

3. Miley Cyrus

The singer has had prominent relationships with ex-boyfriends and ex-girlfriends, and especially since her divorce from Liam Hemsworth, she hasn’t been shy about expressing her sexuality. Cyrus admitted that she does not identify with one gender and is gender-fluid.

Cyrus, a steadfast supporter of LGBTQ rights, has always been on the frontline of expressing her frank opinions on sexuality. Miley has stated: “My whole life, I didn’t understand my gender and my sexuality. I always hated the word bisexual because that put me in a box. I never think about someone being a boy or someone being a girl.”

4. Sam Smith

“After a lifetime of being at war with my gender, I’ve embraced myself for who I am, inside and out,” Sam Smith came out as a non-binary, so he doesn’t identify as either male or female and uses the pronouns they or them instead of he or she.

Sam Smith has become a true LGBTQ+ icon, keen to inspire others to be themselves no matter what saying, “I don’t know what the title would be, but I feel just as much woman as I am man.”

5. Drew Barrymore

Drew Barrymore has dated and gotten married on her ascension up ladders of prosperity and notoriety. Over the years, there have been several allegations and rumors regarding her sexuality. Barrymore eventually acknowledged that she is bisexual.

6. Billie Joe Armstrong

Billie Joe Armstrong is the lead singer of the punk rock band Green Day and a popular American musician. Since announcing his bisexuality in 1995, the artist has been open about his sexuality, openly mentioning it in several of his songs, especially Coming Clean.

“I think I’ve always been bisexual. I mean, it’s something that I’ve always been interested in. It’s ingrained in our heads that it’s bad, when it’s not bad at all. It’s a very beautiful thing.”

7. Demi Lovato

The popular Disney Channel personality is paramount when it comes to embracing her sexuality. Demi Lovato is a supporter of LGBTQ+ rights and self-assured in her own identity. She dated a number of men before coming clean about who she really was. “When I started getting older, I started realizing how queer I really am.”

Demi defines herself as pansexual and fluid in her affection for others, “I’m so fluid now, and part of the reason why I am so fluid is because I was like super closeted off.”
