Just the idea of bumping into an ex at the grocery store seems daunting, let alone having to work alongside them. However, many celebrities have had to set their feelings aside and work closely with someone they shared a romantic history with. In fact, many of them have done it so gracefully that it’s hard to believe they were once together.

1. Cole Sprouse and Lili Reinhart

After dating for about 2 years, Lili Reinhart and Cole Sprouse broke up in 2020. However, even after the breakup, they continue to have a strong friendship and even co-starred in the series, Riverdale.

2. Bella Hadid and The Weeknd

Bella Hadid and The Weeknd ended things after an 18-month-long relationship. The ex-couple, however, still has each other’s backs. The couple met at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show in Paris in 2016, where the model was walking and The Weeknd was performing. Hadid showed her support for her ex-boyfriend and friend and promised no awkwardness.

3. Joey King and Jacob Elordi

In 2017, the former sweethearts made it official on Instagram. Back then, they were starring in The Kissing Booth. But in 2019, Joey King and Jacob Elordi broke up. However, their brief romance didn’t prevent them from working on a sequel to the film.

4. Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak

Between 2004 and 2007, Mindy Kaling and B.J. Novak dated on and off. Nevertheless, they remain coworkers, co-authors, and friends after their split. In fact, they are so close that he is the godfather of her daughter.

5. Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter

Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall got to know one another on the set of Dexter. Behind the scenes, the 2 hit it off romantically and after dating for 2 years, they married on New Year’s Eve in 2008. However, after 2 years of marriage, they divorced in 2010. Back then, the show was still being filmed and the ex-lovers continued to work together.

6. Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern

Following their meeting on the set of Blue Velvet in 1985, Kyle MacLachlan and Laura Dern dated for a few years. After a long separation, the pair reunited on the set of Twin Peaks.

7. Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber

The former couple, Naomi Watts and Liev Schreiber, were married for 11 years and had 2 children together. However, their separation did not prevent them from working together on the movie, The Bleeder.

8. Jennifer Aniston and Tate Donovan

Their first meeting took place in November 1995, after mutual friends introduced them. They later got engaged. Sadly, they ended their engagement around the time they were working together on Friends. As the characters they played fell in love, Donovan was heartbroken over the real-life breakup.

Despite their romantic relationship ending in 2010, Penn Badgley and Blake Lively remained professional while filming Gossip Girl. Badgley acknowledged their ability to work together and handle any complications that arose, stating, “We were constantly professional, to be honest, and we should both pat ourselves on the back because anything is complicated in that way, and we handled it.”

10. Dwayne Johnson and Dany Garcia

Despite their 10-year marriage ending in 2007, Johnson and his producer ex have managed to maintain a professional relationship and collaborate on blockbuster projects. Johnson acknowledges that, “It’s not easy working together”. And he continued, “For everybody out there, relationships aren’t easy, marriages aren’t easy, you gotta work at it.”

While breakups can often be messy and lead to animosity, some celebrity exes have managed to put their differences aside and work together after their breakup. These examples demonstrate it is possible to maintain a cordial relationship with an ex and even collaborate on creative projects despite romantic history.
