Eva Longoria Found Love at 40 and Shares Why Her Marriage Works

year ago

“I want to yell from the highest mountaintop about everything that goes on with us because I’m so happy and excited to be with a person as kind as he is.” This is how Eva Longoria explains her feelings about her relationship with her husband, José Bastón, who is 7 years older. After 2 failed marriages, the Desperate Housewives star finally found her soulmate in José, and their love continues to grow stronger with each passing year.

It was not love at first sight, but it was equally magical.

Actually, it was love at second sight for Eva and José. When they first met, both of them were getting out of relationships, and they didn’t feel a connection. 6 months later, they met again, and as Eva explains, “It was like the cliché angels singing, and there was a glow around him, and it was immediate chemistry.”

In Longoria’s eyes, José was the most handsome man he had ever seen, and the next day they went on a 4-hour date. It was the first time Eva dated an older man and the fact that he was established and “a grown-up” was the cherry on the cake for her.

Eva has never been happier before.

2 years after they started dating, while they were in a desert in Dubai, José popped the big question to Eva. The proposal was a pleasant surprise for the actress, and in one interview, she called her now-husband the kindest human being she has ever met.

They tied the knot in their garden, surrounded by people they love.

During the wedding, Eva was not stressed at all. Actually, she was laughing and smiling so much that she felt like her heart would explode. José had prepared a lot of surprises for Eva, and every half an hour, there was a new surprise, which made the night memorable.

When Eva was asked whether the marriage changed their relationship, she said that even 3 years after they tied the knot, they are still floating. “We were always married in our hearts and our souls, so the wedding was just a beautiful party to celebrate with everyone,” she revealed.

Longoria calls her husband the “best part” of her life.

“People always ask, ’Do you like being married?’ It’s not that I like marriage — I like being married to him. He’s the one that makes it all special and worth it,” Eva poured her feelings out in an interview. She also explained that she and José are constantly discovering new things about each other. “Some days it feels like we’ve been together 40 years and other days it feels like we just met,” Longoria added.

She became a stepmom to José’s 3 kids and that changed her mind about having her own biological children.

While having kids was not something Longoria saw in her future, spending time with José’s children changed her perspective, and in 2018, they welcomed their first baby boy together.

They stay connected by “unplugging” at night.

Eva and José turn off their phones every evening, have dinner together, and talk. And since they are very busy during the day, they have a lot of stuff to catch up on.

During an episode of her podcast Connections, reflecting on her current marriage with Bastón, she shared why their union works so well. Longoria found love with Bastón when she was 40, and he was 50, which she believes allowed them to appreciate life together. “I think finding love at 40, it was just like, ’Can we just enjoy this life together?’” revealed Eva.
