1. Once Upon a River

Book review:

Not just the story, but the writing itself seems set apart from everyday prose. It is beautifully lyrical, almost poetic at times. The author has a way of expressing herself that is unusual, evocative, and playful. Different and yet familiar, it felt as comforting as the fantastical stories you read as a child, yet with a darker edge. I’m trying not to use the word ’magical’, but it is. It weaves its spell and draws you into its unfathomable depths. Rich and intricately woven. I loved it. — Rocketmande

2. It Ends With Us

Book review:

I’d heard so much about Colleen Hoover, I just had to see what all the fuss was about — so I picked up this book, and boy was I glad I did. It Ends With Us is compulsively readable with a heartbreaking and powerful story.
The characters are so well-drawn, there is no black and white here — which is hugely important considering the subject matter. To make your reader fall in love with a character and also hate them is quite a feat. I also really liked the simple yet sharply observed descriptions of how the characters moved; I don’t think I’ve ever visualised that so vividly, and it really added to the action in each scene. I was completely drawn in and sat staring at the book long after I’d finished it. Thank you, Colleen Hoover, for bravely writing this story. — vicki.reads.books

3. Counterfeit

Book review:

I absolutely loved this book. As another reviewer hinted at: it’s a bit like Kevin Kwan meets Chris Brookmyre. It’s so different from anything I have read before, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. Very readable with well-drawn main characters. Kirstin Chen is definitely an author I will seek out again — I highly recommend her. — ChinaBull

4. True Biz

Book review:

This novel is beautifully written! It is clear that Sara Novic is a master of her craft. She artfully conveys the struggles and triumphs of the deaf community through her dynamic and relatable characters. This book gives voice to a population that is often silenced and underrepresented. Hats off to Sara Novic for bravely and unapologetically writing a story in which the deaf community gets the representation they so deserve! This is a must-read! — TwoTired

5. The Club

Book review:

This was a fast past, brilliantly plotted, novel — where the lives of an assembled cast are shown to have been interweaved over 25 years before, finally unraveling one fateful weekend. Dark themes are presented with a dose of humour that carries the reader along until the unexpected reveal at the end. Highly recommend! — luckymummy69

6. Where The Crawdads Sing

Book review:

I was so looking forward to this book and I have to say it didn’t disappoint. The story is exceptionally well written. The author wraps all the characters around you, so they are believable. The story is based on a girl left to survive on her own deep in the marshland of the Carolinas, where she has been abandoned, and mistrusted by almost everyone. She manages to survive through much strife until, years later, there is a body found, and villagers, not knowing what else to do, point the finger at the Marsh girl they have come to fear over the years. I will say, the story had me hooked from page one, and it was finished within 24 hours!!! — Tess1e

10. Beneath Devil’s Bridge

Book review:

A compelling, heartrending, complex tale. Beautifully written with great compassion and understanding. A terribly sad story that also shows how much we need to take bullying seriously and act if we witness it. — Avid Reader

11. The Paper Palace

Book review:

The writing in this book is superb. The author takes you on a journey that is both short and long, in the span of a few days you dive into a life story and how choices can dramatically change the course of your life.
One of the best books I’ve read in recent years; this author has a way with words I just loved. It’s an easy, fast-paced read. It also got me thinking a lot about how places change you as well, how they retain stories and secrets, and how you somehow get an imprint of that when you’re living in a place, and somehow it can resonate with you or not... I just loved it! — Nocella

13. One Step Too Far

I always enjoy Lisa Gardner books, but this one really knocked it out of the park. I was hooked from the first couple of pages and quickly became invested in the characters, they were all written with depth and interest, and it was very easy to visualise each one. The story was well paced and kept me guessing til the end. Recommended. — Jo

14. When You Are Mine

Book review:

Michael Robotham is on top form with this one. Well plotted page-turner with twists and turns right up to the final pages. The story starts slowly gathering speed throughout up to the surprising finale...don’t miss it! — Waldorf

15. The Secret History

Book review:

I just love Donna Tartt; her writing is so rich in detail and genuinely beautiful! This book is engrossing and sinister. The characters are microscopically examined, and they are immoral, tragic, and deep. Donna writes in a classical manner, and she weaves an intricate tapestry that will quite frankly leave you feeling desolate once you finish it! What can I read next that will compare to such quality storytelling? — Ladyg

16. The Guest List

Book review:

I had already read The Hunting Party and saw this one and knew I had to read it. I couldn’t put the book down. The characters and storyline just had me enthralled. Brilliant storytelling. Excellent author. — Susie Q

17. The Arc

Book review:

On my first impression of the title and cover, I wasn’t expecting a dystopian vision of the future of dating, but as a huge fan of the genre, I was pleasantly surprised to realise that this novel was about a strange new concept for meeting your soulmate.
Contemporary romance mixed with cutting-edge sci-fi tech, just in time for Valentine’s Day, comes this imaginative and entertaining novel that will have you questioning what the future of dating might hold.
The Arc doesn’t seem like such a wild idea now, but I am not sure I’d put it in charge of my romantic life!! — Katie

18. Thirty Things I Love About Myself

Book review:

This made me laugh and cry and has definitely inspired me. I don’t have one bad thing to say about this, it was a fantastic read and exactly what I needed. Nina has flaws, and she messed up a few times on her journey of learning to love herself, but it’s one of the many things I loved about this because if it had been a smooth journey, I wouldn’t have been as caught up in the book. I’m gonna be recommending this book to everyone. — Isabel Carson

19. Good Rich People

Book review:

I have been waiting for this book for over a YEAR now — bc I loved Eliza’s last novel If I Disappear. And my goodness, it was so worth the wait! I couldn’t stop reading Good Rich People — the characters, the plot, the intrigue — I didn’t want it to end! — Brad Ahlstrom

20. The Candy House

Book review:

“Knowing everything is too much like knowing nothing; without a story, it’s all just information.”
In The Candy House, Egan shows us exactly how to turn and twirl and sift information into a story. The scale of this novel — its breadth and ambition — would easily fall for a lesser writer. But she takes the brilliance and confusion of the times we live in (and the times we are yet to) and weaves them into a tale of such humanity and scope — lenses both far and microscopic — it is quite simply astonishing. Highly, highly recommended. — Amazon Customer
