10 Smart Summer Hacks to Make Your Life Easier

1. Forget about gnats with handmade repellent jars.
Such jars help to keep annoying insects away from you. And they are easy and quick to make.
All you need is a little decorative jar, half a lemon, 2 sprigs of rosemary, a floating candle and 1 or more of the following essential oils:

Put the lemon slices and rosemary sprigs into the jar, add some water and 10 — 20 drops of the chosen essential oils. Place the candle on top. Light it and enjoy your insect-free day!
You can also use this liquid as a spray, applying it to your skin as extra protection.
2. Relieve itchiness.
Don’t worry if you’ve already been bitten by gnats. There is a simple remedy to ease your suffering. Take some toothpaste and apply it to the stung area as it will help soothe the itchy skin. Before using this remedy, test the toothpaste on a small part of your skin to be sure you won’t have an allergic reaction.
3. Save drinks from gnats.
What could be better than an ice-cold juice or soda on a hot summer day? Unfortunately, gnats can cast a pall over the wonder of summer. To save your drink from insects, place a cupcake baking cup on the top of your glass and pass a drinking straw through it.
4. Fix your pool float.
Who doesn’t like spending leisurely time in a pool laying on inflatable floats? But they can easily tear even if you’re careful. Luckily, it’s a simple matter to repair minor holes in these floats using an iron and heat-resistant paper or material. All you need is to find the leak, put some paper on top of it and then iron over the hole.
5. Protect your feet from calluses.
This life hack is useful for those who love camping trips. To protect your feet from calluses after a long walk, stick some scotch tape to the most sensitive parts of your feet, put comfortable shoes on and enjoy camping without pain.
6. Get cool drinks in minutes.
If you want to cool down your drinks fast, science is here to help you. Submerge your drink into a container filled with iced water. Add 2 spoons of salt and wait for the miracle to happen. Salt will trigger a chemical reaction that will make your hot drink drop several degrees in just a few minutes. Enjoy!
7. Get rid of wrinkles from clothes without an iron.
Fashion emergencies can occur at any time during the summer. For instance, you may need to steam out your clothes, but what if there’s no iron on hand or there just isn’t any time to do it? This problem can be solved with the help of ice cubes. Add several of them to the dryer along with your clothes — that’s it!
The logic is simple: as the dryer heats up, the ice cubes start to melt, creating wrinkle-smoothing steam.
8. Remove sand without effort.
Sand is great when it’s at the beach, but not all over your clothes. If you don’t want to waste your time getting rid of sand from each part of your belongings take a mesh bag instead of a regular one to the beach. It will help you to shake all the sand off.
9. Use a thread instead of a knife.
Want to eat some cheese or sausage at the beach, but have forgotten to grab a knife? No problem. Take a small piece of clean thread, stretch it and use it as a knife. This hack works with fruit, soft vegetables, desserts and other foods.
10. Improve your dreams with cold pillows and sheets.
