10 Uses for Salt That Can Make Tending to Your Home Much Easier

The first signs of salt production appeared 4,000 - 5,000 years ago. Since then, salt has been a very important part of our everyday lives. People have come up with a lot of ways to use this precious mineral aside from eating it. For example, using regular salt can make cleaning way simpler.

10. Remove the grease from pots and pans.

Take 1 glass of salt and put it on the greasy surface of the pan. Then take a simple kitchen towel and rub the dirty spots until they are clean. Finally, wash the pan the way you'd usually do it.

9. Remove stains from a wooden cutting board.

Sprinkle some salt onto a dirty wooden surface and rub it in with half of a lemon. Let the wood absorb the mixture and then wash the board with tap water.

8. Remove the colored residue from a vase.

You can easily remove the greenish deposit from a vase with regular salt. Make a concentrated salt solution and pour it into the vase. Shake it well and wash the vase with tap water and soap.

7. Make a home-made scrub.

In order to make a scrub yourself, take some salt and butter (1:2 proportion), mix them and put it on the face with circular movements. It's better to heat the butter a little in the beginning to make it warm. At the end of the procedure, wash your face and put your regular moisturizing cream on.

6. Protect cheese from getting moldy.

To protect your cheese from acquiring mold, wrap it in a piece of fabric soaked in salty water. This way, you will increase the shelf life of the cheese by a few more days.

Mix 1/2 a glass of salt with 1 gallon of warm water and add a detergent. Wash the entire surface with this solution, paying the most attention to the seams because this is where the most dirt is.

4. Make a foot bath.

In order to make such a bath, you need 1-2 glasses of salt in a small container where you will be having the procedure. Then, add some warm water and keep your legs in the solution until the water cools down.

3. Remove tea and coffee spots from your cups.

Take 1 tbsp of salt and 1 tsp of vinegar, mix them, and put the solution into a cup with tea or coffee stains. Wait a couple of hours and then wash the dishes as usual.

To make your coffee taste even better and to get rid of its bitter taste, experts recommend adding just a little pinch of salt to the beverage.

1. Whiten your pillows.

Pillowcases that become yellow over time can be whitened in a really easy way. Mix 1 tbsp of salt and 1/4 of a glass of soda. Put the mixture into a bowl with boiling water and keep the yellow fabric in this solution for an hour keeping the temperature of the water constant.
