12 Little Things We Had No Clue We’ve Been Doing Wrong

Tips & tricks

Throughout the years, we’ve gotten in the habit of doing things as accepted practice or just as we’ve seen others do them. We love to believe that we know everything, but it’s never too late to learn something new, especially if it’s a convenient life hack.

We at Bright Side realized that we’ve been doing many little things the wrong way. Today, we’d like to shed some light on the proper way to use different things, so get ready to have your world turned upside down.

1. Heel to toe is the right way to walk.

We’ve probably never paid attention to the way we walk or how it affects us. But the truth is that some people walk toe to heel, which is a technique used mainly by animals. But the right way to walk is by striking our heels first then moving forward by placing our feet to the ground and pushing off with our toes. It’s called the heel-to-toe walk, and it’s more efficient than toe to heel because the stride uses less energy. It also reduces the force on the ankles.

2. Storing the ice cream container in a Ziploc bag before putting it in the freezer keeps the ice cream soft.

After opening an ice cream container, we might manage to fight the temptation to eat the whole thing and leave some for the next day. In this case, we put it right back to the freezer, which makes it harder to scoop the next day. Apparently, the best way to keep your ice cream softer is by storing it inside a plastic bag.

3. Moisturizer is not supposed to be rubbed, but rather, tapped onto the skin.

There are many rules about how to properly care for your skin, and lightly tapping products on top of it is one of them. It has been confirmed that with this technique, you literally press the product into your skin, which helps the skin to absorb the product better and increase blood flow. One thing you can do to get optimum results is to warm the product in your hands before applying it.

4. To clean a blender, you can just add some dishwashing liquid and water and blend it.

It’s very common to put the blender inside the dishwasher to clean it, but what’s very interesting is that you can fill the blender with a little bit of hot water and dish soap and let it run for about 10 seconds. Pour out the water, rinse it, and you’re good to go.

5. Cupcakes need to be eaten like a sandwich.

Surprisingly, we’ve been eating cupcakes the wrong way our whole lives. Here’s how to actually do it: first, separate the cupcake from the wrapper, then pull off the bottom of the cupcake and put it on top. It will look like a sandwich, and you’ll be able to enjoy the frosting in every bite.

6. Sleeping on your stomach needs to be avoided at all costs.

Sleeping on your stomach can be very damaging to your health. According to some clinical research, it places a strain on your back and spine because the weight is generally focused on the middle of the body. In addition, it can cause neck problems in the long run.

7. To enjoy iced coffee, you need to use coffee ice cubes.

If you use regular ice cubes in your iced coffee, you will lose the flavor of the coffee once the cubes start melting. Instead, use coffee ice cubes to keep the flavor strong. The cubes are easy to prepare. All you need to do is pour your coffee into the ice cube tray and freeze them, then it will be easy to add to a cup of iced coffee whenever the mood strikes.

8. To microwave your leftover pasta, create a hole inside the plate.

We all like to enjoy pasta leftovers from time to time, and while the only suitable way to heat them up is through microwaving, we should know how to do it properly. To get evenly heated pasta, it’s best to create a hole in the middle, making it look like a donut on the plate.

9. Breathing from your abdomen is more efficient than breathing from your chest.

Unfortunately, breathing is also one of those things we’ve likely been doing wrong, but it’s not too late to learn how to get sufficient oxygen into your system. It has been proven that the most efficient way to breathe is by bringing the air down toward the belly. As the diaphragm contracts, the belly expands to fill the lungs with air.

10. Bread needs to be sliced upside down.

In order to slice bread properly and preserve the shape of the loaf, we need to start on the tougher side. Starting at the bottom of the bread makes it a lot easier to maintain its shape. Also, it is highly recommended to wait until the bread has cooled down to room temperature before slicing it.

11. In order to allow air to enter the garbage can, you can drill holes in the can.

Pulling the trash out from the can and putting in a new plastic bag may seem like a normal task, but we can make it even easier and practical with a small hack. By drilling a few holes in your trash can, you allow air to enter the garbage can beneath the seal of the bag, making it impossible for the bag to vacuum-pack itself in.

12. Rolling up clothes while packing helps you save space.

This method is called ranger rolling, and it helps to gain space, protect clothes from wrinkles, and make the bag look much more organized. You can use this technique for T-shirts, pants, casual dresses, swimsuits, and pajamas, but not for oversized clothes, like sweaters.

What other incorrectly done things can you add to this list?

If you take all the advices literally, you're on your own 😂 only the blender hack, iced cubed coffee, sleeping on the side and packing clothes in a roll make sense to me.
