8 Tips to Make Your Hands Look Younger

When the skin gets bruised or is exposed to the sun, it tends to produce melanin, and eventually, dark spots. The same goes with friction, which promotes the formation of calluses and rough patches. A person’s age can also be revealed by their hands’ appearance.

Achieving soft, young-looking hands is no easy task, especially for those of us who spend all day working. That’s why we at Bright Side are bringing you some useful tips on how to reverse time and age on our hands.

1. For youthful hands, always wear sunscreen.

Definitely, one of the most important tips for keeping our hands young is using sunscreen, which helps us avoid dark spots and even cancer. To do this, 30 minutes before going out, apply generous amounts of sunscreen (SPF 50 or higher) to the backs of your hands. Also, remember to reapply throughout the day.

2. Use gloves for driving and house chores.

Using gloves is a way to keep your hands safe from harm and potential injuries that could cause dark spots. For example, using gloves for driving is a way to protect your hands from UVA and UVB rays. Also, it’s important to prevent your hands from getting dry or bruised by wearing gloves for house chores, such as washing dishes, gardening, or even handling chemical cleaning products.

3. Soak your hands for increased softness.

During the winter, it’s common for people to get cracked, dry, rough skin. To prevent this, soaking your hands in lukewarm water and Epsom salts may benefit and relax your mind and body after a long day. If you prefer to, you can also submerge your feet in the soak for the same results!

4. Improve your hands’ appearance by exfoliating them.

In order for moisture to penetrate the skin, it’s important to remove excess skin before moisturizing your hands. Wet your hands with warm water and use brushes or sponges (natural ones are safer for the environment) to gently massage your skin in circular motions. Follow this with your favorite moisturizer immediately after.

5. Moisturized hands look much younger!

Always keep a moisturizer with you and use it as if your life depends on it! That’s one of the best tips for ensuring that your hands stay well-nourished and baby-skin-like. For increased moisture, you can also try creams containing urea and salicylic acid. You can also go with whatever your dermatologist or pharmacist recommends. Creams containing hyaluronic acid are also good, affordable alternatives for getting rid of wrinkles.

6. Try cosmetics to brighten dark spots on your hands.

In order to lighten dark spots on your hands, try products containing vitamin C, as this substance has the potential of preventing hyperpigmentation.

Beware of skin brightening products that contain mercury as they’re extremely hazardous to your health. Before using any of these products, make sure to thoroughly research any possible risks they might cause.

7. Pay special attention to your cuticles.

Dry cuticles, unfortunately, make your hands look untidy. A way to drastically change the appearance of your hands is by moisturizing your cuticles. You can do this by using special moisturizing products, or even olive oil. Gently massage it into your cuticles and you’re good to go!

8. Take good care of your delicate nails.

For young-looking hands, well-maintained nails are a must. Since bacteria and fungi can cause infections on your skin, consider dropping the habit of biting your nails. With that said, keep your nails in good shape, healthy, and well-maintained for younger-looking hands.

What about you? Do you have any secret tips for maintaining younger-looking hands? Do you use any of these tricks? Which one are you going to try?
