15 Clever Places Where Celebs Keep Their Awards

year ago

Winning an award is something meaningful and exciting for everybody. It is a reward for our efforts that makes a very positive mark on our lives. Many of us still hang our awards on the wall or place the trophies in the living room cabinet and show them off to our visitors. Celebrities face something similar, and some of them came up with very creative solutions to display their awards.

Bright Side looked into what stars do with their trophies. Stick around to discover the ingenious places where celebrities keep their golden statuettes.

1. Jennifer Lawrence

Jennifer won her first Oscar for Best Actress for the movie Silver Linings Playbook, which she starred in with Bradley Cooper. But the actress revealed that it felt weird to have the statuette at home and that it emitted a strange vibe, so her parents took it with them to their Kentucky home and placed it on top of the piano. Before moving on, JLaw had her Oscar in a hallway next to a bathroom.

2. Matt Damon and Ben Affleck

Damon and Affleck won an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay for the 1998 film Good Will Hunting. Apparently, Matt misplaced his statuette after a flood in his New York apartment. A while later, Ben took it with him, and the award went from office to office. Today, he keeps it in the office he shares with Matt, along with a signed Celtics basketball, a Red Sox cap, and photos of both actors.

3. Reese Witherspoon

Witherspoon came up with the idea of putting her Oscar to good use, and instead of keeping it in her home as an ornament, she decided to turn it into a beautiful necklace. But on second thought, she realized that the idea wasn’t very practical, so she kept it in her living room. Reese won that statuette for Best Actress in the movie Walk the Line in 2006.

4. Tom Hanks

Tom preferred to not complicate his life and revealed that he keeps his 2 Academy Awards in a glass case, next to the soccer trophies. But it’s not just his golden statuettes that are kept there, as there is also a trophy for the best mother in the world for his wife’s Mother’s Day. His pair of awards were won in 1993 and 1994 for Philadelphia and Forrest Gump, respectively.

5. Viola Davis

Although Viola Davis would prefer to keep her Oscar award in the garage of her home to keep herself humble, she has it in the office she shares with her husband Julius Tennon, who is also her production partner. Viola keeps the statuette she won in 2017 for Best Supporting Actress for the film Fences, along with her Emmy and her 2 Tony Awards.

6. Catherine Zeta-Jones

The actress, who won an Oscar for best supporting actress in 2002 for the musical film Chicago, says she keeps her statuette in the home she shares with husband Michael Douglas in Bermuda. “I figured not many Oscars have lived there. Of course, everyone who visits wants a picture with it,” she said.

7. Marlon Brando

Taking a trip back in time, Marlon Brando once said that he had lost not one, but 2 Oscars. He doesn’t know what happened to the statuette for best actor that he received for On the Waterfront in 1955, saying, “Somewhere in the passage of time, it disappeared.” Years later, he won another Academy Award for The Godfather in the same category, but turned it down, as he protested Hollywood’s portrayal of Native Americans in film. “The Motion Picture Academy may have sent it to me, but if they did, I don’t know where it is now,” he confessed.

8. Natalie Portman

Someone who also has no idea where her Oscar went is Natalie Portman. “I think it’s in a safe or something, I don’t know,” she revealed when asked about her trophy, which she won for Best Actress in 2011 for Black Swan. She explained that she avoids paying so much attention and admiration to a statuette, as it’s like worshipping false idols, and for that reason, she doesn’t have it on display in her home.

9. Lupita Nyong’o

The Best Supporting Actress winner for her role in the 2014 film 12 Years a Slave says she keeps her statuette in the simplest place there can be: a shelf. When she has guests in her home, she lets them hold her trophy if they want to.

10. Darren Criss

The actor chose the piano in his home to place his Emmy and SAG awards on so that every time he sees them, he can remind himself that they come from a place of creativity. He won them both as best actor for his participation in American Crime Story: The Assassination of Gianni Versace. On the other hand, he gave his Golden Globe to his mother, whom he thanked at the awards ceremony and attributed the realization of his dream to.

11. Cate Blanchett

The actress chose to donate one of her golden statuettes to ACMI, which is the film, television, video game, and art museum in her native Australia. “I can pay an entrance fee and go see it from time to time,” she said. The second statuette she kept at home. Blanchett won best supporting actress for The Aviator in 2004, and 10 years later, the best actress for Blue Jasmine.

12. Kevin Costner

Winner of 2 Oscars for his Best Picture and Best Director wins for Dancing with Wolves in 1991, Kevin Costner kept his statuettes for many years in his underwear drawer for fear that someone would take them. But a while later, he took them out of there to put them in his screening room, which the actor considers the perfect place, as it is full of posters of films that have influenced him. Besides, he thinks it’s appropriate for them to be on view while he enjoys a good film.

13. Angelina Jolie

Angelina Jolie decided to give her mother, Marcheline Bertrand, the Oscar she won in 2000 for Best Supporting Actress for the film Girl, Interrupted. Sadly, Mrs. Bertrand passed away 7 years later and since then, no one has seen the statuette or knows where it is.

14. Nicole Kidman

Nicole felt that the best place to keep her Emmys was in the hands of her young daughters, Sunday and Faith. She told each that she could put each one on their respective shelves with no problem, and that from that point on they were theirs. However, Sunday didn’t want one and said she’d rather earn her own, to which her mother said, “You go, girl!”. It should be noted that Kidman received these awards for her great work as an executive producer and actress on the miniseries Big Little Lies.

15. Rosamund Pike

The I Care a Lot star revealed that she finds it very awkward to display any of her awards at home, as she doesn’t know how her visitors will react when they see them or what questions they will ask her about them. So she decided to bury them in her garden, letting a bit of the golden globe peek through. “I think it’s funny because, in the future, when I’m gone or when someone else buys the house, they’ll be tidying up the garden, they’ll bang on the metal and think they’ve found buried treasure,” said the actress, who also thinks that, by then, award shows won’t even exist anymore, so they’ll be relics.

If you were famous and won an award, where would you keep it? If you have already won one, where do you keep it? Tell us in the comments.
