On August 20, 1977, the most ambitious space mission took off from Earth. The main goal of Voyager 2 was to study the outer Solar System up close. It became possible because of a rare alignment of planets. Voyager 2 was supposed to study all the gas giants of the Solar System: Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Astronomers also hoped it would be able to find and explore the edge of the Solar System. Since Voyager 2 was built for interstellar travel, the probe was equipped with a large, 12-ft-wide antenna. It allowed the spaceship to send the data it gathered back to Earth. During its journey, the space probe discovered a 14th moon of Jupiter. Voyager 2 was the only spaceship to study all four giant planets from up close. It was the first human-made object to fly past Uranus, where it found two new rings and ten new moons. Voyager 2 also flew by Neptune and noticed its “Great Dark Spot.” That’s a colossal spinning storm in the planet’s Southern Hemisphere. The storm is the size of Earth and moves at a speed of 1,500 miles per hour! These winds are the strongest ever recorded on any planet of the Solar System.
We’re flying past the planets of our Solar System. We pass by Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, and Neptune. Then we move through dark space beyond the edge of our world. We’ve reached our destination. It’s the Oort cloud. It’s a hypothetical region around the Solar System that holds tons of asteroids and blocks of ice. It’s likely to be where the largest comet in human history was born. And now, it’s heading toward the Sun! Bernardinelli-Bernstein was discovered totally by accident during the Dark Energy Survey. Our telescopes were pointed at distant space. Their main goal was to learn more about how the Universe was expanding. Astronomers also wanted to make a more detailed map of the observable universe.Scientists analyzed over 80,000 images and found a moving object. It was alarmingly close to our home planet. Its size was an impressive 62[ml (100 km)] miles. That’s about the width of Lake Michigan. It was an already active comet with a long tail. Usually, comets get a tail when they come close to the Sun. The heat from the star warms the comet’s surface, and light materials, like ice, begin to evaporate. This forms a cloud of steam and dust that stretches far beyond the comet.
You’re hiking in the wilderness, looking for a safe spot to set up camp, all you can hear are leaves and branches cracking under your footsteps... Some squirrels are running up a tree over there! But suddenly, something unexpected happens. You notice something weird in the distance in between the trees, it kinda looks like a concrete structure of some sort! Weird... At this point, you’re at least 20 miles deep into the woods and there are no nearby towns or villages...as far as you know. So, you decide to go off the trail with your friends to get a closer look. But as you get nearer you realize that it’s actually a 12-foot-tall staircase, and it’s leading to... Nowhere? Hmm. What’s it doing there, in the middle of literally nowhere? And it doesn’t even lead to anything. You put on your Sherlock Holmes cap and investigate. So...maybe there used to be an old house or mansion here that collapsed over the years and the only thing left is this staircase? But weirdly enough, after circling the bizarre structure you realize there’s no trace of any ruins or even foundations! It’s like someone just sliced a staircase off their house, cake style, and plopped it here, for no reason. Ok...
Now if you step on a sea urchin, you’re going to know right away! Look at those spikes! Get the point? Ha ha, ow! While they’re not aggressive, they’ve got a great defense going against any creatures that want to eat them! Venomous spikes and a poisonous bite! Pick your poison, literally.
Even after over 2 decades since their split, the allure of Brad Pitt and Gwyneth Paltrow’s relationship still captures the attention of the public. Despite parting ways, the 2 have maintained an amicable relationship, even collaborating on projects throughout the years. However, the tantalizing prospect ofwhat might have been if they had remained a couple continues to pique the curiosity of many.
There are many myths around arguably the greatest structure ever built by humans — the Great Wall of China. Some say it’s so grand that it’s visible from space; others claim that you can see it from as far as the Moon. Other theories suggest that the builders of the wall were left inside. Sorry to disappoint you, but all these impressive stories are just myths. But even with those stories busted, the Great Wall of China is an impressive and truly breathtaking structure, so let me tell you its true story.
It’s 2018. You get up early in the morning to go ashore and catch some fish. You come to the spot you were yesterday, throw the hook into the sea and wait. The float is twitching. You’ve caught some fish, but... Hey! Hello! Why aren’t you doing anything? Right now, you don’t care about the fish. You’re looking at something in the distance. You open your mouth in surprise since you see a huge ship stuck on a shoal. It wasn’t here yesterday, so it got here at night.
Long-distance relationships (LDRs) are one of the most popular types of relationships in the world. According to a New York Post study, more than 58% of all relationships end happily. Despite this popularity, many couples struggle to keep the spark alive in their LDRs. Here are some must-haves that can help make your LDR work.
So you’re going on a journey to a black hole? You will need a lot of provisions because the nearest black hole is 1,011 light-years away. This black pearl was found in the solar system called HR 6819. It was hidden in orbit with two other stars, which you can see with the human eye. Scientists have been studying this system since the 80s, but this winter, it revealed its main secret. This particular black hole is considered relatively small. But despite this, its mass is four times bigger than our Sun, and it’s 2,500 light-years closer to Earth than the next nearest black hole.
So you’re standing in a room full of explosive gas. One spark can cause an explosion so powerful that all the windows and doors would be just blown out with a huge column of fire. And you’re holding a match. You need a bigger target than this room. How about the largest room of explosive gas in our entire solar system? Meet Jupiter. It’s the fifth planet from the Sun, and the largest one in our system. It’s 11 times the width of the Earth, and almost 2.5 times heavier than all the other planets in our solar system combined. If we put Jupiter on the scales, we would need about 317 Earths to balance it.
It’s there, I finally see it, for the first time in my life! A grayish body far away in the sky, hidden behind the clouds, the size of 1-4 of a full moon. It won’t be there for long, the last time it was there was 33 years ago — and we’ll have to wait for 33 years more to see it again.Tellus, the mysterious planet humankind still have so much to learn about. For a long time, Earth was the only planet quietly traveling its circular orbit around the center of our Solar System, the Sun. Our solar system was generally a pretty stable place. Jupiter, Saturn, Mars, and other planets — they all acted in a predictable way, always the same orbits. Until some time ago something unexpected happened — another planet entered the Earth’s orbit.
You’ve spent your entire life researching microorganisms. The last few years, you have been creating a device that can shrink you in size. And finally, it’s ready. At first, you want to shrink yourself to the size of a thumb, so you can probably see some microbes with the unaided eye. And then, after more experimenting, you hope to shrink to the size of a bacterium yourself. To make the journey safe, you put on a special suit, similar to a space suit. It’s equipped with a life support system. You direct a beam from the device at yourself. The beam must change your mass and volume. To return to the previous state, you must stand on a round platform the size of a hockey puck. You put it near your feet, so you can easily climb on it when you get smaller, press the button, and activate the machine.
We fly away from Earth to look at it from a distance. It glows like a holiday tree! Big cities look like yellow spots at night. And during the day we see strange structures, like a palm tree-shaped island in the UAE or a dark band that runs all the way through China — the Great Wall. These are traces of human existence. Now let’s point our telescope at other planets. Mars? It’s just an empty, endless desert. Venus? Only rocks and volcanoes. Even if we look into distant space, all the planets out there are deserted and lifeless. Not a single trace of an extraterrestrial civilization.
You’re standing on the bridge of your super-modern spaceship. Today, your mission is to fly to the uncharted areas of space. You travel past beautiful nebulae, spinning pulsars, and black holes. Soon, you’ll arrive at the planet where life might exist in the most unusual forms. You’ll “shake hands” with a strange bug the size of an elephant and maybe even establish diplomatic relations with it. This might happen in the future. For now, humanity is just trying to get farther into space.People first took to the air in 1783 when French engineers built the world’s first hot air balloon. But it only rose above the ground for a third of the height of the Statue of Liberty. In 1903, the Wright brothers made the first flight in a controlled airplane. Since then, people have been reaching higher and higher. These days, modern airplanes can climb to an altitude of 8 miles! It’s like 34 Empire State Buildings stacked one on top of another.
Rebel Wilson is most known for the comedic roles she’s had over the past 2 decades. But no matter how famous she got, she always put her family first. She’s devoted to her family and shares a very special bond with her mom, Sue Bownds. And even though they’re on different continents, nothing can beat their close relationship.

There are some types of love that don’t care about distance, age, and cultural differences, and that are able to admirably overcome obstacles. Real love, despite going through difficulties and encountering impediments, can overcome everything and come out stronger. Nobody said that love was easy, but it seems that fate plays a role in some relationships, and that was the case of singer Nick Jonas and model Priyanka Chopra.
We’ve all had moments where we wished we could read what others were thinking, pretending we were superheroes that could read minds. But what if we told you that you can actually read people just by observing their body language?Despite the power of words, sometimes they can be translated differently with the wrong body movements or gestures. Yet, most of our body language is connected to our subconscious mind, and we find ourselves doing things that come out so naturally, we only realize it after doing it.
About 1 out of every 25 drivers has said that they have fallen asleep at the wheel while driving at night. Not only that, but American drivers have a 1 in 116 chance of colliding with a wild animal. These possible dangers can be avoided if you are extra careful and practice defensive driving. Just because the road is empty late at night doesn’t mean that you can step on the gas and forget about your safety.
Driving might be a convenient means of transportation, but it can also negatively affect your health. For example, long commutes can lead to stress and weight gain. Another common problem is back pain. Luckily, there are some adjustments you can make that might help you avoid this.
If you are not very sure if a person is fond of you or not, and you can’t ask them directly, we will give you some tips. Pay very close attention to the way somebody talks to you or the gestures they make. For example, if they purse their lips while talking, this may show a feeling of discomfort or anxiety.
Traveling to another country isn’t just about taking selfies in front of monuments and other touristy things. It’s not even just about getting used to different weather or hearing people speak a completely different language. Sometimes, things that seem normal for locals are so strange for foreigners, they might even ask themselves if they made it to the right place or if their plane landed on a completely different planet.
House plants are known to have some incredible effects on the microclimate of our homes. For example, they provide more oxygen, create a cleaner atmosphere, and stabilize the air humidity. Plants require permanent care from us, and there are actually some methods that can help us to do it even when we are not at home.
If you disable the sound while watching movies, you can notice how much we actually use our facial expressions and body language. The information communicated this way is easily received by other people and it gives an emotional context to our words and actions. Joe Navarro, an expert at non-verbal communication, reveals the secrets for how to manipulate people to get them to do what you want in his books and public speeches.
Having an accurate eye is an ability we use to measure the distance to objects as well as the distance between them, and compare their sizes and shapes. The accuracy of our eyes grows with experience and is usually developed better in people who often rely on their eyes at work. Additionally, perfectionists can have really sharp eyesight. Are you used to trusting your eyes and are you sure that they never cheat you? Our test is going to show you that this is either true or false.
Remember a time when air travel was only used by rich people? Or when kids used to be excited to play outside? According to a survey, kids the ages of 12 to 15 spent around 12.2 hours a week playing video games in 2017. Welcome to the future! We’re still on the fence about whether this is advanced or harmful for us. Is today’s new normal helping us or making us dependent on technology?
