I used to love summer before I had a baby because it meant vacation time. I could relax at the sea, camp in the forests, or explore ancient cities. My husband and I didn’t need much comfort, and we could plan a trip spontaneously 2 hours before the train left. But after having a baby, we learned that vacations are not so simple. Especially with a family.
You’re walking along the riverbank. It’s quiet save for the water’s peaceful burbling. The hot Georgia sun beats down on your neck. That’s when you notice something strange on the ground. Looks like a quarter-sized black coin with a weird pattern on it. You bend over for a closer look.Is it a coin? This thing looks like an ancient seal with a symbol carved in it. It’s probably from some long-lost civilization! You could sell it and make a fortune!!!You crouch down on one knee to pick up your newfound treasure. As soon as your finger touches it, you pull your hand back as fear wells in your gut. It’s hairy.
An old man stands in the bathroom peering into the mirror. His pupils are getting wider, his hair is standing on end, and his jaw drops in horror. No, he’s not afraid of his reflection. He’s just remembered the scariest day of his life. It’s been thirty years, and he still can’t look at mirrors without fear. The old man closes his eyes, the panic goes away... and the memories come.
At first, you hear a high-pitched buzzing sound. Then sparks start flying in the air around your head. Light bulbs begin to flicker. A deafening crack, and you nearly jump out of your skin. Then you feel hot — as if you’re in the middle of a desert. And you scream and scream until everything around fades to black.
Uh-oh, they’re here. You grab your things and head out to the jeeps that will take you to the evacuation center in the underground settlement. Your dog follows you, not knowing what’s going on. You’re outside, and you can see the giants miles away walking toward you. There are so many of them, each as tall as the Statue of Liberty. But the leader is slightly taller than the Empire State Building. Each giant has a unique face similar to a human’s. But they’re always showing their teeth and popping their eyes open.
If you’ve ever had trouble carrying your bike upstairs, you’ll surely love a nifty conveyor belt that makes it a breeze. And if you’re tired of the same old streets and buildings, some places understand our desire for a splash of color in our lives.
You work in a large nature reserve that is home to more than a thousand species of animals. At night, you drive through the territory in a jeep to see if everything is okay. Most animals are sleeping. Suddenly you hear the monkeys screaming. They jump from branch to branch. A herd of horses runs out of the forest. They look worried, too. You hear many animals crying. Looks like some unknown strange thing has woken up and horrified the whole reserve. You see a flash in the night sky. It’s a meteorite, and it’s flying right towards you. You get in the car, hit the gas, and drive away as far as possible. The space rock falls right in front of you and throws your vehicle to the side. You pass out.
So Barry is running along the shore of the lake as fast as possible. He knows that if he stops, his life will turn into a nightmare in no time. 1,000 mosquitoes are about to bite him! But what he doesn’t know is that he’ll be okay after all. So, don’t be afraid, Barry, and stop! Mosquitoes are slow; they fly at a little more than 1 mph. And you can’t run forever. So, after a couple of hours of pointless running, Barry stops. He sweats and emits a smell attractive to insects. One little mosquito flies up to him. It buzzes next to his ear, sits on his sweaty neck, and bites. The insect pierces the skin with a special mouth apparatus called a proboscis. The mosquito starts pumping blood through this needle. Its saliva gets into Barry’s body and causes an allergic reaction. More precisely, it’s Barry’s immune system that starts this reaction. It perceives the mosquito’s saliva as an enemy and sends a unique chemical substance to the bite site.
Some of the best hobbies out there make tedious activities more exciting: like extreme ironing! There isn’t much to explain about the rules, it’s just ironing clothes, but in the most outrageous of areas, like on top of mountains or on sky slopes. It’s also a pretty organized sport, it has its own international association and its own world championship. The first one took place back in 2002. The original extreme ironist is Phil Shaw, who came up with this hobby when faced with an impossible choice: either do his chores and iron his clothes or go rock climbing. Needless to say, he went for both at the same time. Phil decided to call himself “Steam” and went on an international tour to promote extreme ironing.
Leave it to people wandering on Google Earth to stumble upon the world’s newest — and weirdest — places ever! Like this mysterious pyramid discovered in Antarctica. Soon enough the internet blew up with all sorts of theories regarding this unusual shape. Could it be a sign from a different life form? Is this pyramid indeed natural, or is it man-made? For starters, it’s not the first time we’ve discovered a pyramid in the Antarctic. The first one was observed by the British Antarctic Expedition in the 1910s and kept secret for a long time. Its discovery being kept hidden only added to the mystery. A second such structure was discovered in 2016, which further increased the interest in the matter.
I know, right, why couldn’t we just strap a huge parachute to the entire plane? You bring up a great point — with some airplanes malfunctioning, why don’t we just make them float safely to the ground? I mean, if we can drop a human being on a parachute, why can’t we do the same for planes?

You wake up with your head feeling heavy. Ummm... 1, where’s your comfy bed? And 2, why were you just sleeping on the wet and dirty ground in the middle of nowhere. Wait, what’s all this stuff around you? Are you in... the Jungle?

Scars can appear as a result of a small kitchen incident, birth, or even a serious accident. One thing is clear though, scars hold memories and they make us who we are. They are unique, and some are even badges of honor for a person’s courage in the past.
The oldest known optical illusion is thought to be a 15,000-year-old carved stone figure, which means sometimes reality is more complex than what you see at first glance. Like, for example, the lake you see in a beautiful landscape pic may actually be the roof of a car. These sort of mesmerizing things don’t just happen to us every day, but worry not.

Or when you cook your pasta and suddenly see a hypnotizing image. Or when you walk around a lake and see an invasion of millions of geese. It’s impossible to see things like these a second time.
