I have experience with silence. I wasn't silent for a full year though, but for 9 months. My choice wasn't voluntary. I had a brain injury and couldn't breath or swallow properly. This resulted in doctors putting a small plastic tube like thing in my throat, to help me with breathing. Consequently, i couldn't talk and eat, becasue air went through the tube instead, insted of throat and vocal chords, which need air to function. Thanks to this, my jaw muscles atrophyed, as wasn't using them not even to eat. In addition, my voice changed. It got lower, but doctors say, it will go back to where it was. This was 6 months ago. Other than that, i don't see anymore problems.
