Studies show redheads are more sensitive to pain, not less, so I think you're wrong there.
Not to argue with you, but where did you read this? I have a good friend that I appreciate because she's such a fighter who has gone through a lot of things in her life (medical stuff mostly) and doesn't show any weakness
As a redheaded woman who dyes her hair often, I feel like 75% of this isn't true.
As a redhead I say most is true. I do require more anesthesia than what is given to someone my size. If hurt, I can handle more pain.... higher pain tolerance. I have been told I have less strands of hair but the strands are thick. Not sure about the vit D in my experience. The only thing on the list I have not heard before is "more likely to be left handed".
How does it feel to be able to handle pain more than others? That's like a superpower!
Wow! It never crossed my mind how different ginger people were
Omg these people are like REALLY another kind of humans 😱
The "having a higher pain threshold" part is probably the biggest misunderstood part of being a true redhead. Part of the mutation from the MCR1 gene causes our nerve endings to be more exposed, think like a piece of wire- you have to strip the protective sheath to make a connection, right? (My hubs is an electrician so I can kinda make the correlation easier lol) Well, depending on your various genetic codes your nerve endings are generally only "open" or exposed to the stimuli a small amount, But for redheads & in particular redheaded women, ours are stripped back quite a bit more. Meaning our nerve endings are subjected to a Lot more stimuli all of our life. So we actually just get used to dealing with more pain & therefore "have higher thresholds". But is isn't all fun & games bc also due to the need for more anesthesia, most of us also process pain medications at a higher rate as well. Meaning our bodies burn through the same amount of medication that would last someone else the same size at sometimes twice the rate of time, causing doctors to label us as "med seekers". It really isn't fun to have that said to you, until you say "check my blood pressure", a sure sign that something isn't ok in your body & your bp is so high they call in 3 more people to check it bc your range is nearing what they like to call the "stroke out zone". Seriously, I've had to go in for horrid back pain & bc I can lucidly talk to them they don't really believe me, until that bp is checked & comes up around 220/180 & I weigh around 120lbs & in good physical shape. Dental work can be a nightmare as well bc the novocaine starts to wear off before the dentist is done & I have had to grab the techs arm bc I was crying bc I was feeling Everything the dentist was doing! That scared my dentist a bit so he now doubles the amount he would regularly use & actually just gives me more if the procedure is running long. We really are the true X-men of the world, too bad people have been persecuting redheads for centuries 🙄🤷♀️.
I am a left handed redheaded female. If I have dental work they give me more novacaine because I am so sensitive to the pain. I did get a basal cell skin cancer removed from my face. My hair is very thick, my Mom used to call it copper wire. I have always been sensitive to temperature changes, normally very hot blooded but as I get older, I am now more sensitive to cold temerature changes as well. I had 2 C- sections and was given morphine both times. Most Anesthsiologists know we need more anesthesia and are very aware of our need for more. I am 52 yrs old and I wish we knew these things when I was younger. I applaud all redhead research so that our young redheads and future redheads will have this very important information.
Hi Christina! Any bad experience you'd like to share? I'm so intrigued by how redheaded people are so different 🤔
And the most importantly, red heads are just amazing :)
Love their awesome hair!!
I dyed my hair ginger a couple of times, still I didn't look as impressive as the real redheads :(
because they are naturally magical ❤
As a guy I want to say that red head girls are extremely attractive 😊
