13 Little-Known Ways Baking Soda Can Make You Look More Stunning

You’ve never have imagined how easy it is to change your appearance without spending loads of money on beauty products. Everyday cooking products like baking soda can have miraculous results on our bodies. Baking soda is not only effective at making our cakes fluffier, but can also help us achieve a glowing look from top to toe, and here’s how.

At Bright Side we are going to present to you the most unusual, yet practical, ways to use that powerful element to brighten up your image.

1. Whiten your teeth.

Baking soda and an activated charcoal mix can be used as a primary ingredient in making a homemade toothpaste that will give you a bright and clean smile.

You’ll need:

  • 1 tbsp of baking soda
  • 6 tbsp of coconut oil
  • 4 tbsp of bentonite clay
  • 2 tbsp of activated charcoal
  • few drops of essential oils

Blend the ingredients all together creating a toothpaste. If you want you can replace activated charcoal with fresh strawberries and lemon juice. You can also mix baking soda, peppermint oil, and water to create your own mouthwash.

2. Make a homemade deodorant.

One of the main uses of baking soda in the kitchen is to eliminate funky smells. This happens because it is able to neutralize acids and bases, which makes it a great option to use to make your own natural deodorant.

You’ll need:

  • 1/8 tsp of baking soda
  • 1 tsp of water
  • Coconut oil

Stir and create a paste that you can keep in the fridge and use to block bad smells and keep your underarm area fresh. If you’d like, you can create a unique scent — adding a few drops of essential oil in your favorite aroma.

3. Get rid of blackheads.

Easily create a homemade face mask using simple ingredients to clean your face — removing blackheads once and for all.

You will need:

  • 2 tbsp of gelatin powder
  • 1 tbsp of milk
  • 1 tbsp of fresh lemon juice
  • 3 tbsp of baking soda

Heat the mix for 4 seconds at a time in the microwave until it gets warm but not hot. Test it on your hand and if the temperature is right, apply it on the blackhead area. Leave it to dry for about half an hour and then peel it off gently. Afterward, wash your face with water and moisturize.

4. Make the dark circles under your eyes disappear.

If a lack of sleep has brought on dark circles or undereye bags, there’s no need to worry if you have baking soda, chamomile, and water in the house.

You’ll need:

  • chamomile tea
  • 1 cup of water
  • 1 tbsp of baking soda

Make a regular cup of chamomile tea and leave it to cool. Then add the baking soda and blend the 2 really well. Get a cotton ball or a cotton towel, blot it in the mixture, and then apply the mixture under your eyes. Leave it for 10 to 15 minutes, clean the area with fresh water, and moisturize.

5. Remove yellow stains and help your nails grow.

Everybody wants to have white healthy nails. If you want to get rid of yellowed stained nails and grow them long and healthy, your solution is a simple mixture of baking soda.

You’ll need:

  • 2-3 tbsp of baking soda
  • 1 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide
  • 1 tbsp of lemon juice

Make a paste by blending all the ingredients together. Apply a thick layer on your nails, leave it on for a few minutes, and then wash it off. You’ll see that your nails are much whiter and shinier. For longer nails, you can also mix baking soda with lemon juice and apply the paste the same way.

6. For glowing skin

Give yourself a day of pampering and prepare a face mask to make your face look brighter, younger, and fresher using baking soda, grapefruit, and oil.

You’ll need:

  • 2 tbsp of grapefruit juice
  • 1 tsp of baking soda
  • a few drops of olive oil or another essential oil of your choice

In a bowl, mix all of the ingredients and stir well. Apply smoothly on your whole face, leave for 10 minutes, rinse, and then apply a moisturizing cream. Replace olive oil with lavender or lemongrass oil for a soothing mask with a relaxing scent.

7. Relieve sunburns or skin rashes.

Either you want to just relax after a tiring day or you want to soothe your pain from sunburns or eczema. It’s best to avoid chemical products or rubbing your skin with sponges. It’s time to enjoy a warm baking soda bath that will give you softer skin and ease any inflammation.

You’ll need:

  • water
  • 1 tbsp of baking soda

There are 2 ways to do this. You can either create a paste and apply it directly onto the affected area or, for a more relaxing experience, fill in your bathtub with hot water — not very hot though — and add 1 to 2 full tbsp of baking soda. You can also add a few drops of your preferred essential oil in the water to help you relax. This will relieve rashes, so it can be used for kids with chickenpox too.

8. Make your own scrub for your face and body.

Because of its consistency, baking soda makes a powerful ingredient for a non-toxic scrub. You can remove dead skin, brighten the skin, dry the oily areas, and get an overall better look from forehead to toes.

You’ll need:

  • 1-2 tbsp of baking soda
  • 1-2 tsp of honey

Mix the ingredients. Take part of the mixture in your hands and start to rub it softly on your face or your body in a circular movement. Rinse with warm water and wipe it softly with a cotton towel. The honey will help you to avoid any rashes on sensitive areas.

9. Soften your calluses.

If you suffer from calluses on your hands or feet that are tough and painful, baking soda will help you decrease their size, and also soften the skin in those areas.

You’ll need:

  • 2-4 tbsp of baking soda
  • warm water
  • 1 tbsp of brown sugar

In a bowl or a basin, with warm water, add 1 tbsp of baking soda. Soak your hands or feet in there for 5 minutes. Make a paste with the rest of the ingredients, apply it on your dry feet or hands, and scrub your calluses away with that mix. Then rinse and apply a moisturizing cream. Wrap them with a clean towel for a few minutes for better absorption.

10. Give extra volume and strength to your hair.

If you’re dreaming of thick hair with lots of volume, you can now easily achieve results with a homemade mix made with baking soda.

You’ll need:

  • 2 tsp of baking soda
  • 20 drops of castor oil

You can either simply add 1 tsp of baking soda to your regular shampoo and wash your hair, as usual, or create your own shampoo by mixing baking soda and castor oil in a cup. Once your hair is wet, pour on the mixture, and wash your hair, massaging your scalp for a few minutes. Rinse your head and condition your hair if you want to, then dry as usual with a towel.

11. Lighten dark knees and elbows.

If you cannot stand your dark knees and elbows the solution is really simple and will get you the natural skin color you love.

You’ll need:

  • 1/2 lemon
  • 2-4 tbsp of baking soda
  • 3 tbsp of hydrogen peroxide

Mix the baking soda, the peroxide, and squeeze half a lemon in a bowl. Soak the lemon in the solution and apply it directly to the dark area by rubbing the lemon on your knees or elbows. Leave it on for a few minutes. Repeat a few times, then wash it off with cool water and enjoy the results. For better results repeat on a more regular basis.

12. Exfoliate and lighten your lips.

This blend is really useful, especially during winter time when chapped lips are a frequent problem. If you miss soft and healthy lips, this one is for you. You can also use baking soda to lighten dark lips naturally.

You’ll need:

  • 1 tsp of honey
  • 1 tbsp of baking soda

Blend the ingredients and make them into a paste — that’s more like a scrub. Apply and leave it on for 1-2 minutes. Then softly massage your lips to exfoliate all the dead skin cells. You can also use a toothbrush to exfoliate better. Afterward, wipe with a cotton towel and rinse with warm water. Now you can enjoy soft kisses again.

13. Use it as a facial hair remover.

This might be the most surprising thing you can use baking soda for. Combined with water, baking soda can be used as facial hair remover.

You’ll need:

  • warm water
  • baking soda

Just mix enough baking soda with boiling water to make a thick paste, and let it cool. Take a cotton pad or any cotton towel and dab it in the solution. Apply the mixture to the hairy areas and secure it with a bandage. You can also apply the mix directly to the area, secure it with a bandage, and go to bed, leaving it to work overnight. The next day, remove the bandage, rinse with warm water, and apply a nourishing cream. Repeat on a daily basis until the hair disappears completely.

We hope that you’ll put these remedies to good use. Have you tried any natural beauty tips that work well? Share your knowledge with us and show us the pictures of your favorite homemade products.
