15 things that happened 15 years ago but seem like only yesterday

Time flies by so quickly that sometimes you glance at the date when your favorite TV show was first released, and you’re left astonished: it seems like you discovered it only yesterday, but it actually appeared many years ago.

We at Bright Side were amazed when we realized that Shrek appeared in movie theaters a whole 15 years ago. And what’s more, we lived until 2001 without Wikipedia.

The world premier of Harry Potter and the Sorcerer’s Stone took place in November 2001.

The movie took second place in box office records, earning $976 million. At that time only Titanic was more successful.

Steve Jobs introduced the world to an amazing device: the iPod.

And gave music lovers incredible opportunities.

The film studio Dreamworks Pictures introduced us to an amusing green ogre called Shrek.

Shrek was the first full-length cartoon in history to be awarded an Oscar for best animated film.

Meanwhile, the film studio Pixar gave us Monsters, Inc.

Thanks to Pixar, we learned that terrifying (that is, terrifyingly cute) monsters really do exist and found that we loved them with all our hearts.

Remember the cute little girl Boo, whose appearance changed the lives of the monsters forever? Mary Gibbs, who provided the voice for the character, was so young at the time that the filmmakers had to play with her to get her to perform her lines. And now Mary is 20 years old!

Britney Spears astounded everyone with her performance at the 2001 MTV Video Music Awards ceremony.

Britney’s performance at the VMA is considered to be one of the best of her career. The performance had elements of wild tropical cultures, and she amazed everyone when she began to dance with a python.

We fell in love with the doctors and nurses from Scrubs.

The first episode of Scrubs was shown on October 2nd, 2001, on NBC, and the final season finished in March 2010. Six years later, the show remains as popular as ever. Dr. Cox’s cynical sense of humor and the thoughtfulness of J.D., as well as the ridiculous situations the characters find themselves in, won’t leave anyone indifferent.

Wikipedia was launched.

And now there are seven answers to every question!

The Windows XP operating system was released.

A lot of today’s software doesn’t even work with Windows XP anymore.

Shakira changed her image and became a blonde.

In 2001, Shakira had a makeover, became a blonde, and entered the English-speaking market. Her album Laundry Service made her a very successful singer, and the song ’Whenever, Wherever’ included on it became a worldwide hit. Did you love her as well? Go on, admit it!

Director Christopher Nolan astounded us with his film Memento.

The psychological thriller movie Memento was based on a story called Memento Mori. The main character, Leonard, can’t remember anything that happened more than 15 minutes ago.

The world began to go crazy about Jennifer Lopez...

J Lo celebrated her triumph in both music and film with the release of the album J.LO and the movie The Wedding Planner.

...and fell in love with Bridget Jones.

The romantic comedy Bridget Jones’s Diary and its wonderful heroine have become the favorites of millions over the past 15 years. The third installment comes out in September.

There was only one Justin, and he sang the song ’Dirty Pop.’

Justin Timberlake began to sing in ’N Sync in 1995. The group’s third studio album, No Strings Attached (2000), sold 15 million copies. Justin’s solo career began in 2002.

And you were 15 years younger!
