20+ People Reveal the Things They Hate Seeing in Public

There are as many opinions as there are people. There are also as many types of behavior as people, and some of them not only annoy us, but even make us boil over. It’s especially irritating to see people behave inappropriately in public places.

We at Bright Side are sure that we should watch the way we behave and always remember to use our good manners, regardless of whether there are people around us or not. Turns out, it doesn’t take much to make the people around us furious. At the end of the article, there is a bonus life hack that will help you fight the annoying habit of sellers who like to add more stuff than you ask for.

  • Hi! My name is Ulyana and sometimes I go outside with my hair down. When I am on the bus, I hide my hair in my coat or my blouse so that it doesn’t get on other people’s faces. Why other girls on buses don’t do this, I have no idea. © ash_ulyana / Twitter
  • Once, I went to the movies. Usually, I don’t eat while watching a movie and I try to visit the cinema in the morning, when there are not many people. This particular visit to the movies was in the evening, with many people chewing something around me. But that’s kind of the norm. The most terrible thing happened when one woman beside me took out a can of ready-to-eat dumplings and started to eat them. The whole hall smelled like her food. I thought this was the most epic thing I’d ever seen. But then, one glamour chick brought her dog into the theater (hidden in her jacket). After hearing a loud sound, the dog started to bark. The girl was asked to leave the theater, but apparently, she got angry about this and started yelling at the theater attendant. © Overheard / Ideer
  • I saw a guy in a public parking lot dump his car’s overflowing ashtray out onto the pavement and then just drive off — leaving his butts and ashes for someone else to clean up. © Back2Bach / Reddit
  • Surely there are things, people, and behaviors that are annoying. But what really makes me boil over is when your friend asks to meet up and have a chat, but ends up spending the whole evening trying to talk to you and writing messages to someone else on their phone. © Oksana Hurban / AdMe
  • There are people who whistle at a person to get their attention, as if they’re a dog. I don’t care how far away from me you are, you have to call my name for me to respond to you. © Slappyn****** / Reddit
  • I can keep my cool in almost any emergency situation, but when there are a lot of people around and in response to me ignoring them, the person talking bends toward me and starts to click their fingers in front of my face to get my attention, I literally just want to spit in their face, turn around, and leave. © feedherhabits / Twitter

  • It annoys me when people comb their hair in public places. They simply take out a comb, right in the middle of the street or at their workplace, and start to brush their hair. This is a violation of all the norms of etiquette and it is unhygienic, but people don’t care. Once, I asked a girl in a cafe to stop doing it, and she replied, “I’m not getting undressed here, right?”
  • I hate it when people (mostly girls) try to get something out of their eyes in public places. They try to do it so elegantly, with their well-manicured nails. Moreover, after removing that something from their eyes, they start to examine what that something is. There is so much dirt and so many germs on her hands, and she gets it all into her eyes. © Overheard / Ideer
  • When people pull out the earbuds from your ears to ask you something. They act like it’s the funniest thing in the world, but meanwhile, I’m pissed off, and have already bought 2 new sets of earbuds this year because the wires were coming loose! © LUMPISS / Reddit
  • Within one hour of walking around the city, I saw men urinating in public 2 times. One was doing it in a kids’ park, simply turning his back to the crowd, the second one was doing it in the yard of a condominium. The question is: Why does my dog have to do her toilet business in specially designated areas and they don’t? © bulochkairisa / Twitter
  • I am amazed by the people who find it appropriate to come up to you and start criticizing your hair color. It’s like why I don’t come up to you and start saying, “Your clothes are so ugly. Why did you buy them at all? Take them off, I don’t like them.” © asya_aoki / Twitter
  • I am annoyed when seeing people listen to their music through loudspeakers. Is it so hard to realize that those in your surroundings might not like your music or that they might be wanting to stay in silence at the moment? © mr_zanudo / Twitter
  • I am amused when I see people cutting their nails in public. You can’t imagine the amount of people who do this on my daily train ride. The noise is bad enough, but I have no faith in people’s ability to control where those bits of nails are pinging off to. Also, a guy at work did it at his desk all the time until I asked him not to. © ninjanut / Reddit
  • You can be with 30 people on the commute home from work, and all it takes is one rude person to make it miserable. Yelling into their cell phone, bad hygiene, playing loud music on their phone with no headphones, watching movies/playing games without headphones. I’m sure I am forgetting some good ones. © Daniel Michaels / Quora
  • I am annoyed by the people who think they should answer a phone call regardless of what is happening around them. My mom is like this: she will invite our whole family to a cafe to spend a good time together — once we find a table and sit down, she basically gets a call. Instead of declining the call, she will pick up the phone and explain to her friend that she can’t talk at the moment because she wants to spend some quality time with her daughter. It happens regularly: during family dinners, watching a movie, shopping. She even picks up solicitor calls. When I say to her that there is no need to always answer the phone she says, “Maybe something has happened and they need my help!” When asking why she doesn’t hang up after learning that nothing bad has happened, she says, “It’s impolite!” Well, inviting a daughter to meet for a chat and then spend this time speaking on the phone instead, is apparently polite...© Anna Repp / AdMe

  • Speaking of people who block the way. The other day my friend and I were waiting in line for an ATM. 2 girls in front of us withdrew their money and started to pack it into a suit-case without even stepping aside. We continued waiting for them for a long time. When they finally left, they got hit by instant karma: my friend tried to insert her card, and it wouldn’t work — turns out, the girls forgot the card in the slot. I ran around hoping to find them, but they were not there. The ATM took their card. © Zhu / AdMe
  • My home has thin walls and it just so happens that a couple with very naughty children lives behind the wall of my bedroom. The kids shout from 5 AM till 10 PM — howling, screams, stomping — everything at once. I understand that this is just how kids act, but I can’t sleep well. Now when the kids start to yell, I start to yell into the socket (for better audibility) and I say I’ll come and take away all the naughty kids. They become silent instantly. © Overheard / Ideer
  • It annoys me that most people romanticize workaholism today. It goes like this: look, I work like a horse, I don’t sleep for 6 days straight, I work overtime, I suffer from being in a toxic team, I save myself by overcoming all these things, and I recommend you to do the same. When will they start to romanticize love and self-respect? © Wizard_Severus / Twitter

Bonus: A simple life hack for those who get annoyed by sellers inaccuracies

Sellers in markets always put in more stuff than you ask. It’s extremely annoying, so I found a way out. If I need one pound of cottage cheese, I ask for 0.75 pounds. If I need 4 pounds of mandarins, I ask for 3.5 pounds. Eventually, I get the amount I wanted initially.
— It’s a bit more, is that ok?
-Sure.
Both the sellers and I are happy. © Overheard / Vk

I have another one about shopping carts, because of covid everyone has to take their cart in the store, it helps people social distancing, but a lot of people just leave them everywhere... so now it's even harder to keep my distance or just shop at all
