7 Optical Illusions That Baffled Internet Users to the Core
Do you remember the picture of “the dress” that looked like white and gold to some and blue and brown to others? What about the auditory illusion known as “Yanny or Laurel”? Since those fun challenges, the internet came up with even more illusions that baffled users and we’re ready to share them with you.
Pay close attention to the photos below. We at Bright Side couldn’t tell what was wrong with them right away. Can you?
1. The photo that looks like a color photo
This shot and one other photo “exploded” the heads of Internet users because they look like color photos but in fact, are not. The author achieved this effect thanks to applying a net with colorful lines to people’s figures. This trick “colored” the picture.
2. The photo that seems black and white
This photo was published by Holly McKee on her Twitter account. Holly captured the hangers with baby clothes on them when she was strolling in one of the malls. At first, it might seem that the photo was made with the help of a black-and-white filter but that isn’t the case. The truth is that the camera was working in its usual mode but it captured the clothes that didn’t have bright colors on them. Holly proved this to be true by posting a video about it on YouTube.
3. A cat that is watching us
This video shows an announcement about a missing cat. And it seems that the cat is turning its head to the side of the person reading the announcement. This illusion happens due to the fact that the paper is glued to the uneven surface and the perspective of the photo looks different depending on the angle you’re looking at it from.
4. The helicopter that takes off without the rotor moving
It might seem that the helicopter in this video takes off by itself because its blades aren’t moving. But in fact, this is an illusion known as the strobe effect. This time it happened due to the fact that the rotational speed of the blades coincided with the frame rate on the video.
5. What color is this chest of drawers?
That’s the question the author of this photo asked when he posted the pic on Reddit. The commenters started a debate: some saw blue and gray colors while others saw white and pink. What colors do you see? Turns out, the drawers were painted in gray and blue colors but can look white and pink due to the reddish lighting in the room.
6. Missing leg
This photo that appeared on the Instagram account of Instylemagazine attracted people’s attention right away. However, it wasn’t Hailey Baldwin or Kylie and Kendall Jenner that people were looking at — they were trying to find Kendall’s missing leg. The subscribers were counting the girls’ legs, drawing lines trying to understand which leg belonged to whom until they realized that the missing leg was hiding behind Kendall’s dress.
7. Dunes or holes?
This photo was published by Luca Parmitano on his Twitter account. The man wrote that he had captured sand dunes from above. However, his followers grew perplexed because it seems that the picture was depicting sand holes, not dunes. That’s when one of the users tried inverting the picture.
That’s when everything became clear. According to Parmitano, dunes are like Maurits Escher’s pictures that repeat the same patterns, constantly “breaking” our brain.
Did these illusions manage to trick you or was the right answer obvious to you from the start? We’d be glad to hear from you in the comments!
