Oof, ok I've got several problems with this article. Now nobody get mad, just expressing my opinion. So first the title, people seem to have forgotten the word "Racism", of course I don't encourage it, but "Lookism" as you call it isn't racism nor it will become one. Second some of these statements don't make sense, for example attractive people sell more... Excuse me? That's their job, and if they're manipulative then that's even better for that line of work. Plus beauty standards aren't a cult. If someone is obsessed over how they look it isn't the society's fault, and we should have our own standards and to do our best to work on our selves, like go to the gym etc. And putting on makeup seemed to have boost confidence with all the lady friends I've talked/been at home with. And I have to say it again, racism does happen, but not the way we think it does and where it does. If anyone sees this and disagrees, express your opinion politely, mostly cause I'd love to hear other peoples opinion but not in e.g. "*UCK YOU YOU RACIST SEXIST *UCK" words. Thank you. :)
Finally someone spoke about it. I have never been so beautiful, just ordinary. And I have always noticed that girls my age who were more attractive than me (well, according to others), just had more respect and support from teachers and other people.
This is kinda sad because people look at your face from the very beginning and judge, not even looking at knowledge and skill you have
Your comment kinda reminds me when a peer of mine when I was in highschool, about getting a 1 (F in American standards) and she thought she did for at least a 2, but she completely missed the point of the test, and actually tried to get the teacher fired by calling a meeting, stating she gave her a 1 because she didn't like her. Thankfully the teacher wasn't fired, but the point I'm trying to make is that maybe you're accusing too much. Judging by your profile pic, if that's really you, you don't look bad, maybe you were envious (not calling you out, even if you were we are all human) of those you speak of. Just don't think about beauty and stuff and you'll be fine.
Kurt Vonnegut described in very well in his short story "Harrison Bergeron" where people were prevented from being to good looking, to talented or to intelligent.
Since it appears that being g attracted to good looking people is hardwired into our psyche maybe being aware of it might help a little, but I doubt it.
How short is it? :D Can I read it online? Can you send a link, if it's as short as you say?
