10 Actors Who Are Ashamed of Their Iconic Roles

When watching their favorite movies like the Star Wars series, the James Bond films or the Jason Bourne trilogy, many people have no idea that the actors absolutely hated the characters they portrayed. There are different reasons for this: some actors trusted their agents and were disappointed in the project while others thought they simply did a bad job. Some actors just decided to do a certain film for the sole purpose of earning money and becoming famous.

Bright Side found out which actors feel ashamed of their iconic roles.

1. Harrison Ford — Star Wars

Out of the 2 iconic characters that Harrison Ford has portrayed, he values Indiana Jones more. Believe it or not, he doesn’t have much love for Han Solo, the role that made him famous. The actor thinks the character is dumb and is only a secondary character.

After the film The Empire Strikes Back, he begged Geroge Lucas to kill Han Solo (and his wish finally came true in episode VII). During the press tour of Star Wars: Episode VI — Return of the Jedi, Ford said that he was ready to put on the costume one last time.

2. Matt Damon — The Bourne Ultimatum

Matt Damon did a really great job in the Jason Bourne trilogy but he didn’t really enjoy The Bourne Ultimatum. He thinks that scriptwriter Tony Gilroy is responsible for the bad quality of the final film. The actor once said, “It’s just that it was unreadable. This is a career-ender. It’s terrible. It’s really embarrassing.”

3. Halle Berry — Catwoman

When Halle Berry got the chance to play a part in Catwoman, the whole world was happy about it. But in the end, the viewers were disappointed. However, Halle Berry was strong and when she was receiving her Golden Raspberry award for her role, she said, “I wanna thank Warner Bros. for giving me the opportunity to take part in this terrible film. This is what my career needed: going from the top to the very bottom.”

4. George Clooney — Batman & Robin

Even superstar George Clooney doesn’t like all of his roles and keeps on apologizing for his part in Batman. He thinks that he was the worst Batman in the entire history of the franchise and critics agree with him. He said, “Let me just say that I actually thought that I destroyed the franchise. At the time, I thought this role would help my career. But everything turned out to be completely different.” This failure helped Clooney choose better roles in the future which led to several Oscar nominations.

5. Sarah Jessica Parker — Sex in the City 2

Despite the fact that this film starred actresses like Penélope Cruz, Miley Cyrus, Heidi Klum, and Liza Minnelli, critics didn’t receive the film well — and neither did fans. Sarah Jessica Parker said, “There was not a single day when I didn’t want to take part in the shooting. I understand that we failed. But I also understand how much money this film earned us.”

6. Robert Pattinson — Twilight

Robert Pattinson doesn’t like Twilight — he doesn’t like Edward and he doesn’t understand why so many people like both the film and the character. In one of his interviews, he said, “The more attentively I read the script, the more I hated this guy. Besides, he is a 108-year-old virgin, so he probably has some problems.”

  • IMDb rating — 5.2

7. Cher — Burlesque

In Burlesque, Cher plays a strong-willed leader of dancers that hires a talented new girl and teaches her everything she knows. Cher had high hopes for Burlesque and later she said that she thought the director Steve Antin was the reason why the film was so bad. She thinks that her character is boring, underdeveloped, and is disappointed that she didn’t have a romantic plot in the film. She said, “This movie could have been much better. I feel really sad that it is what it is.”

  • IMDb rating — 6.4

8. Ben Affleck — Daredevil

Ben Affleck is really ashamed of his role in Daredevil. He thinks that his acting was bad and he was not able to develop the character enough. At the same time, Ben thinks that he reduced the damage by portraying Bruce Wayne. He said, “I wanted to work on another film from this universe and make things right thing time. I hate Daredevil.” But not everything about the film was bad: while working on it, he met his future wife Jennifer Garner. Their marriage lasted for 13 years and they have 2 children.

  • IMDb rating — 5.3

9. Will Smith — After Earth

Will Smith called his part in After Earth “the most painful failure” of his career. He admitted that the failure he had in Wild Wild West was less difficult for him to deal with because this time, his son Jaden was involved and Will was the one who invited him onto the project.

10. Sean Connery — James Bond

A lot of fans of the franchise think that Sean Connery was the best James Bond in history. The actor portrayed him in 7 films and he always gave 100%. He made the character iconic. But Connery himself doesn’t like the super agent. In one of his interviews, he said, “I have always hated that d**n James Bond. I’d like to kill him.”

Do you also think that these films were terrible failures or do you believe the actors overexaggerated things?
