Props are essential to a film’s history and can sometimes become quite valuable, so movie studios generally try to hold on to them. However, the actors who use these props normally do not consider their monetary value and instead want them as a keepsake or a reminder of their character portrayal. During a Q&A, Keanu Reeves disclosed that he possesses a fantastic memento from his role in The Matrix.

When asked if he has ever “stolen” anything from any of his movie sets, Reeves clarified that he had not stolen anything, but he has kept some items like the watch and wedding ring from John Wick, a sword from 47 Ronin, and the very first red pill ever from 1999’s The Matrix. Reeves disclosed that the Wachowskis, who served as the writers-directors of the movies, provided him with the iconic prop.

In one of the film’s most memorable scenes, Morpheus, played by Laurence Fishburne, presents Neo, played by Reeves, with a choice between a red and a blue pill. By taking the red pill, Neo could see the truth, as Morpheus puts it, and choose to follow “the rabbit hole.” Conversely, the blue pill would allow him to return to his normal reality and live peacefully.

The Matrix Resurrections, the latest film in The Matrix franchise, was released in 2021, following the original and 2 sequels: The Matrix Reloaded and The Matrix Revolutions. When questioned as to whether he would star in another Matrix movie, the star stated that he would be willing to revisit his role for the fifth time if the right people were involved and the opportunity presented itself.

Indeed, during a December 2021 appearance on a podcast with his Matrix co-star Carrie-Ann Moss, Reeves already revealed that he would be interested in returning to the highly successful franchise, but only if director Lana Wachowski helmed the film once more. The actor was eager to participate, saying, “If she invites me again, I’m in.”

Despite his desire to return to The Matrix franchise, the star expressed doubt that another movie is likely to happen. He stated that if he had to guess, he believed that director Lana Wachowski wouldn’t make another film. However, Reeves and his co-star in the movie, Canadian actress Carrie-Ann Moss, expressed their willingness to participate. Moss noted that they had similar doubts about the most recent film, but still returned for it.
