This Is the Right Order to Watch the Marvel Movies to Get Ready for “Avengers: Endgame”

year ago

Eleven years have passed, and an era has just ended for the Marvel Cinematic Universe with the release of Avengers: Endgame in April 2019. This is the final chapter of the heroes we looked forward to seeing on the screen each season. It’s no news to the fans of this universe that all films are interconnected and have a chronological order that doesn’t match their release dates. From the birth of Captain America to the shocking defeat against Thanos, it only takes a quick look at the comics to see it. In the new production, the quest will be to face the terrible titan and seek to reverse the damage done by the Infinity Gauntlet.

Bright Side was filled with nostalgia to see the end of this era, so we’ll share with you the list of the movies organized in the correct order of the story. This way you can see them before the last premiere.

1. Captain America: The First Avenger (2011)

Captain America is the oldest of all the superheroes. The story begins during World War II, where Steve Rogers meets Tony Stark’s father. Here we find out that Stark gave him his nearly indestructible shield.

The key scenes, however, are shown after the credits. Captain America wakes up 60 years later and meets Nick Fury to found the league of The Avengers. It’s also seen how Red Skull discovers the Tesseract, which he would use to boost his technology.

2. Captain Marvel (2019)

The Starforce captures Carol Danvers and takes her to the Supreme Intelligence. In the movie, we discover how Fury lost his left eye. We also get a look at who’s monitoring the pager that Danvers gave him in case he needed it.

A scene between the credits shows how Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and the rest of the group monitor the pager activated by Fury before it disintegrates. It also shows how Danvers appears years later looking for him.

3. Iron Man (2008)

Iron Man was the first movie of the Marvel Cinematic Universe to be released. The film portrays the story of Tony Stark. He is kidnapped by terrorists and attempts to develop a suit that will help him escape. He later destroys the armored suit in the desert and starts secretly building an improved version of it. This is how he becomes Iron Man.

The film also shows Nick Fury inviting Tony Stark to join The Avengers in a scene after the credits.

4. Iron Man 2 (2010)

After Tony Stark’s identity is revealed, Ivan Vanco creates a mini arc reactor similar to the one Stark has. The reactor becomes a success for its peaceful intentions, but Tony Stark gets accused by the government of being in possession of specialized weapons.

As with many Marvel movies, the key feature is in the scenes after the credits. Phil Coulson, a S.H.I.E.L.D. agent, arrives in New Mexico where authorities appear to have found a crater. He contacts Fury to inform him about his new finding: Thor’s hammer.

5. The Incredible Hulk (2008)

The movie recounts the story of Bruce Banner in the comics that Marvel titled: Fury’s Big Week. Banner is a scientist who wants to make humans immune to gamma radiation by recreating the World War II Super Soldier Program.

In the last scene, Tony Stark argues with Ross about the Harlem incident while at a local bar, reminding him that the program has been suspended and offering him a chance to form a team.

6. Thor (2011)

Frost Giants burst into Thor’s coronation to recover the Casket but are stopped by Odin. After a failed attempt to try to solve the problem, Thor sparks an intense battle for which his father divests him of his powers, the throne, and sends him to Earth, where he loses his hammer.

After the credits, we see Erik Selving working beside Nick Fury. He asks Erik to analyze the Tesseract because of its incalculable potential power. However, it’s only after Thor’s brother, Loki, intervenes that Erik agrees.

7. The Avengers (2012)

It’s the first movie that portrays the Avengers together for the first time on screen. This time Loki meets the Chitauri’s leader, the Other. They agree to recover the Tesseract by working together in exchange for an army to dominate the Earth.

Scenes in the credits show the Chitauri’s leader complaining to his master about the mistake of believing humans were weak and explaining that attacking them would be flirting with death. It’s the first time in the Marvel saga in which Thanos is revealed as the master. Finally, we get to see the whole team eating together in silence at a restaurant.

8. Iron Man 3 (2013)

Tony Stark gives a conference about integrated circuits at a New Year’s Eve party. After his unfortunate performance, Stark meets Aldrich Kilian who offers him a place in his A.I.M. project, Advanced Idea Mechanics.

When the credits are finished, we see Tony Stark narrating his experience to Bruce Banner. He had fallen asleep and had to explain to Stark that he wasn’t that kind of doctor. We can also see the phrase Tony Stark will be back.

9. Thor: The Dark World (2013)

In this Thor sequel, the Dark Elves, guided by Malekith, attempt to conquer entire realms using the power of the Aether, the Reality Stone. They seek to restore the energy state in which the Dark Elves prosper.

Post-credit scenes show the Reality Stone in the hands of the Collector. The final scene portrays Jane and Thor kissing passionately while a Frost giant from Jotunheim is accidentally transported to Earth.

10. Captain America: The Winter Soldier (2014)

Following a conspiracy inside S.H.I.E.L.D., Captain America doesn’t know who to trust, until he discovers Hydra has been constantly interfering in the organization. This is how the movie prepares fans for Avengers: Age of Ultron.

Key scenes are revealed after the credits. In one of these, Von Strucker proclaims at a Hydra laboratory that “the age of miracles” has begun. Finally, let’s not forget the final part in which Barnes visits his own memorial and the Smithsonian Institute.

11. Guardians of the Galaxy (2014)

The Reality Stone is protected in the interior of the Orb, which will kill whoever holds it, except the most powerful. This is how the true nature of Peter Quill is revealed and he and his team join the Nova Corps to confront the Dark Aster at Xandar. Star-Lord and his followers get to put the purple gem in Nova Prime’s power.

At the end of the film, we see Tivan seated amongst his ruined collection and 2 of his living exhibits, an outer-space duck and dog.

12. Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 (2017)

The Guardians protect valuable batteries from an inter-dimensional monster in exchange for Gamora’s distanced sister. Upon finding Nebula they decide to form an uncommon alliance, but later on, she chooses to leave and continue the search to eliminate Thanos on her own.

At the end of the movie credits, Kraglin takes possession of the telekinetic arrow and Ravager leader, Stakar Ogord, rejoins with his team. We also see Groot as an adolescent and watch Ayesha create a new being to destroy all the Guardians.

13. Ant-Man (2015)

Hank Pym quits S.H.I.E.L.D. after discovering their attempt to replicate Ant-Man’s shrinking technology. He found it extremely dangerous and swears to keep it hidden while he’s still alive. Later on, he hires Scott Lang to steal the suit as part of a test.

In the last scenes, Hank shows a new Wasp suit and offers it to Hope. We also get to see that Sam Wilson and Steve Rogers have Bucky Barnes in their custody. They are unable to contact Tony Stark, but Wilson suggests that he knows someone who can help.

14. Avengers: Age of Ultron (2015)

Ultron is born after the Mind Gem is snatched away from Baron Strucker, thanks to the Avengers. The stone finally appears in front of the artificial intelligence that was created by Tony Stark and the Vision, an android robot that emerged from the J.A.R.V.I.S. evolution.

After the credits, we see Thanos putting on the Infinity Gauntlet and disappointed by his pawns’ actions, he swears to retrieve the Infinity Stones himself.

15. Capitan America: Civil War (2016)

This movie takes place after the Ultron Era and the destruction of Sokovia. Politicians demand that the Avengers work under the authorities supervision. This inevitably divides the Avengers into 2 sides: One led by Tony Stark and the other one by Steve Rogers.

We also see Spider-Man come into play and watch Black Panther’s appearance suggested after the credits in a shot that portrays Bucky taking refuge in Wakanda and choosing to go back to cryogenic sleep.

16. Spider-Man: Homecoming (2017)

This story begins a few days following the Civil War. Peter Parker has a fight against the Vulture and his band of criminals, the distributors of Chitauri technology guns. The movie shows how Tony Stark becomes Spider-Man’s mentor and gifts him with a new suit.

In the scenes after the credits, Gargan hears that Toomes knows Spider-Man’s real identity but when confronted, he denies it all.

17. Dr. Strange (2016)

Set in New York, Stephen Strange looks for a cure for his hand wounds to be able to continue his profession as a neurosurgeon. He does this with the help of Christine Palmer, but their search is unsuccessful. When he’s about to go bankrupt, he finds out about Jonathan Pangborn, a paraplegic who mysteriously recovered the use of his legs.

At the end of the film, Strange decides to help Thor, who has brought his brother along with him to look for Odin, their father. In a post-credit scene, Mordo confronts Pangborn and steals all the mystic energy arguing that there are “too many sorcerers” already.

18. Black Panther (2018)

In Wakanda, T’Challa is pronounced king after his father’s death and undertakes the Black Panther’s strength. Erik Killmonger threatens to usurp the throne and defeats T’Challa after a mission in which the king finds Klaue and some stolen vibranium.

In a shot between credits, T’Challa finally reveals Wakanda’s real power in front of the United Nations. We also get to see how Shuri helps heal Bucky Barnes, the White Wolf.

19. Thor: Ragnarok (2017)

2 years after the battle of Sokovia, Surtur kidnaps Thor. He tells him that his father is no longer on Asgard and assures him that the realm would soon be destroyed by Ragnarok. Thor tries to convince Hulk and 142 to help him save Asgard, but none of them accept at the beginning. We also see Hulk transform into Bruce Banner for the first time since Sokovia.

Thor decides to take his people to Earth on board the Grandmaster’s ships, but is intercepted by a spaceship. The last scene depicts the Grandmaster confronting his former subjects.

20. Ant-Man and the Wasp (2018)

Scott Lang tries to live a normal life while living under house arrest when he’s called to join a mission. He’s asked to discover information about Pym’s past and for this quest, and is counting on help from Van Dyne.

The connection with the next Marvel Studios production is in the scene where we see Scott arrive at an empty house and spot a big ant touching his drums. At the end of the film, the screen reads Ant-Man and the Wasp will return, making room for the new Avengers: End Game.

In the streets of New York, we see Fury and Maria Hill, after the credits, trying to find Tony Stark who has been out of sight for a long time. In the meantime, alien sightings are reported in Wakanda. Many incidents invade the city which are Thanos’ doings, and which prevent Fury from sending an emergency signal from a pager marked with Captain Marvel’s badge.
