10+ Famous Child Celebs Whose Careers Took an Unexpected Turn
There are celebrities whose ups and downs we have followed since their childhood, through them growing up. Who would have ever thought that everybody's favorite Macaulay Culkin, who played Kevin in Home Alone, would go through hard times that ruined his career and almost his life? See what happened to some other well-known kid celebrities.
One of the problems famous children face is that their appearance on television at a very early age can take a serious toll on their behavior and development. Especially if there are also family troubles. Keeping your head up and yourself on the right track takes a lot of strength and willpower.
Bright Side has found 11 of the most recognizable celebs and is ready to show you how their lives have changed.
1. Keanu Reeves
Keanu could also have been an ice hockey star, as he was goalkeeper at De La Salle College earning him the nickname "The Wall." However, despite dreaming of playing ice hockey for Canada an injury forced him to choose another career.
Ever since his sister Kim was diagnosed leukemia, Keanu often donates some percentage of his earnings to leukemia research.
2. The Olsen twins
Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen began starring together in TV, film, and video projects when they were 6 years old. The sisters also had a fan club, "Mary-Kate & Ashley's Fun Club", where fans paid to receive Mary-Kate and Ashley items and photos. As the girls grew up, they have been featured individually in the media, rather than as a pair.
Now, they don't even look as similar as they did before. And, today we are likely to hear about the twins in a fashion industry instead of the film industry.
3. Iggy Azalia
Amethyst Amelia Kelly began rapping at age 14 and when she was 16, she moved to the United States to pursue a career in hip-hop music. Everyone might know Iggy for her music but there's something she's notorious for as well: being outspoken and especially for her offensive jokes. She was also accused several times of cultural appropriation.
4. Amanda Bynes
Amanda Laura Bynes started her TV acting career in 1996 at the age of 7. You could often see her on Nickelodeon shows, films, and other comedies. Bynes rose to prominence with her role in All That for seasons three through six.
In 2002, Amanda began to gain popularity among her fans with her debut film role in Big Fat Liar, starring alongside with Frankie Muniz. Her acting career took off over the next two years, with a leading role in the romantic comedy Lovewrecked and in the comedy She's The Man.
In 2010, Bynes announced that she was taking a break with her acting. During this time she studied fashion design at the Fashion Institute of Design & Merchandising in Irvine. In 2015, Amanda took sketch classes at a private institute in Los Angeles.
Last year, in June, Bynes announced that she wanted to return to acting but only in television.
5. Dylan and Cole Sprouse
Dylan Thomas Sprouse and Cole Mitchell Sprouse, also called the Sprouse brothers or Sprouse Bros had their first major theatrical film role in the 1999 comedy, Big Daddy. Here they co-starred with Adam Sandler at just 7 years old.
Following the suggestion of their grandmother, Jonine Booth Wright, a drama teacher and actress, the brothers began acting at the age of 8 months.
Through the building of the duo's success, the media has termed them "heartthrobs" and "overwhelming draws" among teen audiences.
In 2005, the brothers signed a licensing agreement with Dualstar Entertainment to produce Sprouse Bros branded merchandise for the preteen and teenage market, which included a clothing line, book series, and magazine. Most of the Sprouses' franchise ended in 2008, except for their clothing line.
6. Julianna Rose Mauriello
If you were born in the 1990's-2000's, you might remember a sweet, colourful, and quirky girl named Stephanie from LazyTown. Julianna Rose Mauriello was 9 years older than her character, but the show's creator saw her as the ideal person for the role. These days she is focusing on her medical career, as well as, taking professional dance classes on a regular basis. So, we're likely to see her performing as a dancer in the future.
7. Haley Joel Osment
Haley Joel Osment is mostly known for being the kid in Forrest Gump. His other roles in The Sixth Sense, and Artificial Intelligence set him up to grow into one of the best in his field. In the early 90's Osment was considered one of Hollywood's most adorable child actors.
Before his fame, Haley was discovered at a local IKEA by a talent scout at the age of 4, and afterwards auditioned for some commercials.
Osment was the voice for Sora, the main character from the video game series Kingdom Hearts, and Vanitas, a villain from the same series.
He also worked on Montana Amazon as both an actor and executive producer. Olympia Dukakis starred in the film and it debuted at the Orlando and Big Apple Film Festivals in 2010, winning Best Feature Film, at the latter.
8. Alyssa Milano
Alyssa Jayne Milano began her acting career at the age of seven. Her babysitter, without notifying her parents, took her to an audition for one of the four principal parts in the Broadway musical, Annie. And Alyssa was one of four chosen from more than 1,500 girls. From 1989 to 1992 Milano released her music albums, described as "bubblegum pop," which made it to platinum in Japan. Milano claims that watching baseball with her father and brother in her childhood has helped her in the fashion industry. What she's most proud of now is being an ambassador for UNICEF.
9. Willow and Jaden Smith
These fashionable siblings are the children of Will and Jada Smith. Jaden is now 19 and Willow is 17. The kids didn't let their parents fame pass them by and chose to do their own thing in Hollywood. You might recognize Jaden from the films After Earth, where he starred alongside his father, and Karate Kid, where he had his own box office success. Meanwhile, Willow made her acting debut in I Am Legend, alongside her father and topped the music charts with her catchy hit song 'Whip My Hair' in 2010.
10. Christian Bale
Christian Charles Philip Bale first won the public attention at the age of 13, when he was cast in the starring role of Steven Spielberg's Empire of the Sun. Since that moment, he's been playing in most well-known masterpieces, like The Machinist, The Fighter, and the Batman trilogy. Bale has been described in the media as one of the most versatile and talented actors of his generation. He has shown a willingness to commit to his roles that goes far beyond what most would dare to do, like losing and gaining weight in an incredibly short period of time (which could have been dangerous for his health).
11. Winona Ryder
Winona Laura Horowitz made her film debut at the age of 15. She scored critical acclaim and widespread recognition when she played Lydia Deetz, a goth teenager, in Tim Burton's Beetlejuice. No sooner did the praise over Edward Scissorhands pass, than Winona was caught stealing over $5,000 worth of designer clothes at a Saks Fifth Avenue in California. Ryder was also acused of using illegal drugs. In 2002, she was convicted of grand theft shoplifting and vandalism. However, Winona found a way to get through this and tried to continue her acting career. It didn't quite work until she landed her main role on the Netflix series Stranger Things.
