At the beginning of their career, every actor dreams of star roles in movies that the whole world will watch. But we all know that leading roles don't guarantee lasting fame.

Today Bright Side will tell you about some actors who didn't become stars of the big screen, even though they were very talented.

12. Josh Hartnett

After significant roles in Pearl Harbor and Black Hawk Down, Josh realized that he didn't want to take part in action films and declined most screenplays. His refusal to play Superman was considered to be an offense. Now this actor plays only in low-budget TV series and movies.

11. Armie Hammer

Armie played twins in The Social Network and did it really well. He also had a role in The Lone Ranger. But the actor faced failure, not success. After The Man from U.N.C.L.E. fizzled, Armie's biggest work was dubbing for Cars 3.

10. Denise Richards

The actress's career began with TV shows. But when Paul Verhoeven moved to Hollywood, Denise got a role in his Starship Troopers action movie. Later she played in Wild Things, but this movie wasn't an overwhelming success. Now she appears in low-budget movies.

9. Alex Pettyfer

After Stormbreaker, the spy thriller failure, Alex managed to find a more successful role in I Am Number Four. Unfortunately, this movie didn't become a blockbuster. Today Pettyfer acts in unknown arthouse films.

8. Katherine Heigl

Her career always seemed to be going well. Katherine became really popular on Grey's Anatomy, though she had previously been in some famous films. Today this actress is well known for her roles in comedies and melodramas that are pretty good but aren't box office hits.

7. Taylor Kitsch

After moving to the USA, Kitsch worked as a model and dreamed of being an actor. He became famous after Friday Night Lights, which led him to the blockbuster X-Men Origins: Wolverine. Further roles in John Carter and Battleship should have strengthened his status as a superstar, but both movies failed.

6. Hayden Christensen

Anakin Skywalker brought huge commercial success to Hayden. But thanks to harsh criticism, Christensen started to be associated with the worst moments of the trilogy. He got 2 Razzie Awards for this role. Now Hayden plays in mediocre movies.

5. Lily Collins

This actress was doing well at first. But after the successful Mirror Mirror comedy, she failed. And after The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones, Collins was involved in some arthouse projects. Last year she was nominated for a Golden Globe Award for her role in the little-known Rules Don't Apply.

4. Garrett Hedlund

Garrett started his modeling career when he was a teenager. When he turned 18, he decided to become an actor. His first role was Patroclus in Troy. Hedlund later played a leading role in Tron: Legacy, but the movie didn't become as successful as expected.

3. Taylor Lautner

His role in Twilight was expected to bring huge success. Taylor attracted everyone's attention and was declared a new movie star. But Abduction, the first movie after Twilight, wasn't really successful. The actor is now part of the cast of a sitcom called Cuckoo.

2. Sarah Michelle Gellar

At the end of the '90s, Sarah was one of the most popular actresses of the new generation. In addition to her prominent role in Buffy the Vampire Slayer, she played in such great movies as Scream 2 and Cruel Intentions. But the actress didn't manage to get out of teenage movies, and now we can see her only in TV shows.

1. Kristin Davis

Everyone knows this actress as Charlotte. But Kristin isn't as humble as her hero. She was treated for alcoholism several times and was accused of many scandals. Though Sex and the City became iconic, Kristin didn't manage to echo Sarah Jessica Parker's success.
