The difference between the cost of clothing for mass market brands and for clothing from the luxury segment can reach several thousand dollars. At the same time, sometimes it can be pretty hard to distinguish which is which. The celebrities who often opt for budget-friendly brands are a bright piece of proof of that. They leave the public guessing which designer created the masterpiece, and totally unsuspecting of the fact that they bought the item from the store on the corner for pennies.

We at Bright Side decided to conduct a little experiment and compare similar clothes from so-called mass market brands to lux brands. Let’s take a look at how much they differ.

1. Celine ($3,063) vs Asos ($53)

In 2019, Selena Gomez appeared in public in an adorable polka-dot dress from the famous brand Celine — the singer paid decent money for the item. Several years prior, Kate Middleton proved that a similar look can be created by spending only $53 — the Duchess of Cambridge delighted the public in her budget-friendly dress by Asos.

2. Brandon Maxwell ($1,495) vs Zara ($50)

This classic straight dress silhouette appears in the line of almost every brand, but the prices can vary greatly. The outfits on Meghan Markle and Eva Longoria are bright evidence of that. The left pic shows the masterpiece created by Brandon Maxwell, the right pic shows an outfit from Zara.

3. Dolce & Gabbana (≈ $2,234) vs Zara ($28)

Despite her love for mass market brands, at the beginning of the last year, the Duchess of Cambridge appeared in public in an elegant tweed suit by Dolce & Gabbana.

One year prior, Queen Letizia of Spain delighted everyone in a similar tweed dress, though she paid much less than Kate for this garment.

4. Gucci ($13,000) vs Wasteland ($26)

For the Golden Globe Award Ceremony 2018, Dakota Johnson opted for a stunning velvet dress by Gucci — the actress looked really dashing in it. In 2007, Angelina Jolie demonstrated a similar look by wearing a vintage dress by Wasteland, having complemented the outfit with a wonderful brooch and shoes by Christian Louboutin.

5. Savannah Miller ($2,000) vs Daya ($38)

2 years ago, Sienna Miller appeared in public in a satin dress. The designer of the outfit turned out to be the actress’s sister, Savannah. Zendaya, in her turn, opted for her own line of clothing — like this dress, which was available for less than $50.

6. Mulberry ($645) vs Asos ($67)

In 2016, Kate Middleton appeared in public wearing a soft-blue coat designed by the British fashion House, Mulberry.

2 years prior, Taylor Swift showed off a more budget-friendly option by wearing a coat manufactured by Asos.

7. Celine ($5,790) vs Mango ($229)

In 2019, Emilia Clarke and Irina Shayk admired their fans with their stylish looks in classical coats. Emilia was wearing a coat designed by Celine, Irina was wearing a more budget-friendly coat from Mango.

8. Calvin Klein ($2,000) vs Meshki ($76)

Outfits consisting of straight pencil skirts and crop tops have been at the peak of popularity for a while now. They can be found both in the collections of designer brands and in mass market stores. Alessandra Ambrosio is wearing a Calvin Klein creation, while model Ashley Graham poses in an outfit designed by Meshki, a budget-friendly brand loved by many celebrities.

9. Aritzia ($228) vs H&M ($60)

A stylish, oversized down jacket can be found in the wardrobe of almost any girl nowadays. However, this item can be found at almost every price point. Kendall Jenner paid more than $200 for her jacket, while her thrifty colleague Gigi Hadid paid only $60, and the jackets look equally nice on both girls.

10. Victoria Beckham ($777) vs Topshop ($59)

At the premiere of the movie Jesus Henry Christ, Julia Roberts appeared in a laconic black dress with a white collar and cuffs designed by Victoria Beckham’s brand.

Kate Middleton in her turn found a similar dress from Topshop’s collection.

11. Ellery Conrad ($1,228) vs Aritzia Babaton ($138)

Queen Rania of Jordan has always been known for her elegant taste. At one official event, she appeared in a purple outfit with flared sleeves. Interestingly, the spouse of King Abdullah II has worn this same dress in public at least twice. A similar dress from a mass market brand was worn by Meghan Markle in 2019.

12. Romona Keveza ($5,000) vs Zara ($50)

Models Chanel Iman and Emily Ratajkowski look gorgeous in these laconic one-shoulder scarlet dresses. It’s actually hard to distinguish that one dress is made by the couture brand Romona Keveza fashion house, while the second one is a creation from the budget-friendly brand Zara.

13. Hugo Boss ($980) vs Marks & Spencer ($220)

Queen Letizia loved the soft-lilac 2-piece suit by Hugo Boss so much that she has worn it several times in public.

The Duchess of Cambridge also likes classic suits but, unlike the Queen of Spain, Catherine paid much less for her garment.

Do you think prices for luxury clothing brands are worth it? Or do you think we actually overpay when buying clothing from famous brands?

Angelina’s relationship with her father, Jon Voight, has been a roller-coaster. Despite their past differences, they’ve managed to mend their relationship, with Angelina’s children playing a pivotal role in their reconciliation.
