Since the 1980s, we’ve been graced with Eddie Murphy’s talent in stand-up shows, sketches, and never-aging movies that always manage to give us the giggles. But little did we know, Murphy scored in real life too — today he’s raising his 10 children with the love of his life, Paige Butcher. The road was not easy, but the love and devotion they have for one another was worth it.

We at Bright Side enjoy epic love stories and blended families. That’s why we decided to shed light on the Murphy family, so keep scrolling to learn more about them.

Eddie Murphy had a complicated love life.

Throughout the years, Eddie Murphy’s love life was quite a rollercoaster, complete with many ups and downs. Around the end of the 1980s, Murphy became a father of 2 sons, Eric and Christian, from former girlfriends, Paulette McNeely and Tamara Hood.

He tied the knot in 1993 with Nicole Mitchell after meeting her in 1988, and they had 5 children together, Bria, Myles, Shayne, Zola, and Bella. But they announced that they were splitting in 2006 without a fuss.

In the same year, the comedian began dating ex-Spice Girl Melanie Brown, with whom he shared a daughter, Angel. Murphy had doubts about the pregnancy, but a paternity test confirmed that he was the father.

At last, In 2008, Murphy was very briefly tied to television producer and personality Tracey Edmonds. The 2 had a “symbolic wedding” with non-legal vows in a private ceremony in Bora Bora, and they announced 2 weeks later that they were calling it quits.

Murphy and Butcher first started dating in 2012.

Paige Butcher is an Australian actress and model who’s been working her way to the top from a young age. At the beginning of her acting career, she landed a role as a background model in 2006’s Big Momma’s House 2, where she met her future lover, Eddie Murphy. Nothing happened back then, but things were about to change for her for good.

Murphy and the blonde beauty started dating in 2012, and when they got together, she deleted all of her social media accounts. She explained her decision in 2013 by the statement, “I’m in a relationship with a celebrity, so I felt like there’s already enough of me out there. I was giving people too much access. I like to keep as much private as possible now.”

He proposed to her in September 2018.

The couple has had a great relationship ever since. She was easygoing and didn’t care about making things official because she was fine to just have fun. Murphy showed her off to his friends — she’s one of those girls that makes all your guy friends jealous...

He popped the question after 6 years of dating and with a daughter and son on the way. The couple is known to keep things private, but one thing’s for sure, the proposal must’ve been as mesmerizing as their love and respect for each other.

They make a great team.

Murphy and his fiancée have many things in common, and charity work is one of them. While Murphy has been associated with diverse charities and causes, such as monetary donations to the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, the Martin Luther King, Jr. Center, and $100,000 to the Screen Actors’ Guild’s strike relief fund, Butcher also likes to give of her time and money to charitable organizations.

The gorgeous Australian is passionate about building homes with Habitat for Humanity. She started her charity journey by joining a sports program for children with physical and mental disabilities, then nursing homes, as well as volunteering at homeless shelters. She’s a true giver, as she once mentioned, “I’ve always wanted to do charity stuff. I’m such a nurturer and love taking care of people.”

They mastered the art of a blended family.

When the love birds started dating, Murphy was already a dad of 8 kids from previous relationships. After the birth of their daughter in 2016 and their son in 2019, Murphy became a father of 10, and his children’s ages range from 2 to 31.

Murphy is very proud of his children and family, and he shared, “The brightest part of my life is my kids [...] My world revolves around them.” He added, “I really got lucky with my kids. There really isn’t a bad one in the bunch, everyone turned out to be really good people.”

On the other hand, Butcher has been able to make it work despite the many ex-wives, girlfriends, and children. She proved to be a loving mother and stepmom, and she and her future husband have surely mastered the art of having a blended family.

In your opinion, what made the Murphy family a happy blended family? And what do you do to keep your own family close to each other? We’d love to hear about it in the comments!
