For women in entertainment, dealing with comments about their appearance seems to be an everyday thing. In this case, it was Jamie Lee Curtis who decided to take to her Instagram account to send a message about what it’s been like for her to leave behind the days of trying to hide certain physical features.

Bright Side wants to share the position that the actress took on the constant demands of the bodies of celebrities that the industry has.

“I’ve been sucking my stomach in since I was 11.”

For Jamie Lee Curtis, fame is nothing new, as she is the daughter of a couple of actors who left their mark in Hollywood cinema: Janet Leigh and Tony Curtis. And her name was launched to stardom with the movie, Halloween, in 1978. Since then, she has not stopped proving that talent is something she has plenty of. And this time, she also proved that she is an advocate for the idea of accepting our bodies as they are.

What started the conversation about her body was a photo that she herself decided to post on her Instagram profile. In this image, we can see Curtis in a pose that many would consider “unflattering,” but it reflects nothing more than the comfort of the actress on the set of her new movie, Everything Everywhere All at Once.

In the message that accompanied her post, she wrote, “In the world, there is an industry — a billion-dollar, trillion-dollar industry — about hiding things. Concealers. Body-shapers. Fillers. Procedures. Clothing. Hair accessories. Hair products.”

“I’ve never felt more free.”

To this, she added the part that perhaps was what managed to resonate with most of her fans: “I’ve been sucking my stomach in since I was 11, when you start being conscious of boys and bodies, and the jeans are super tight.”

Leaving that behind, she mentioned that in this new film, “My instruction to everyone was: I want to hide nothing.” This is contrary to other films, where retouching is the order of the day.

With that indication to her team, the actress was the first to allow herself to be truly authentic, saying, “I very specifically decided to relinquish and release every muscle I had that I used to clench to hide the reality. That was my goal.”

“I have never felt more free creatively and physically.” These were the words with which Jamie Lee Curtis ended her message, demonstrating that accepting our bodies as they are is also a way to love ourselves.

What do you think of Jamie Lee Curtis’s stance on the industry that demands her to have an “ideal body?”
