Russian Teacher Gets Fired for Posting a Swimsuit Photo, but Then Her Colleagues Launch an Epic Wave of Protest to Support Her
According to statistics, 70% of employers check their potential employees’ profiles before making a decision on whether to hire them or not. The character of our article wasn’t looking for work, but social media still became a source of trouble for her when it came to her job. What she didn’t expect is that so many people would stand up for her.
Today Bright Side is going to tell you the story of a Russian teacher whose swimsuit photos got her in some trouble, but don’t worry this is a story with a happy ending.
Victoria Popova, from Omsk, Russia, works as a history teacher and models on the side. She is famous for her nickname ’teacher in a swimsuit.’ During one of her training photo sessions, she was learning to pose in swimsuits. The photos were published by one of the magazines and became public, which caused a wave of resentment.
The parents of her pupils asked the school principal to fire the inappropriately dressed teacher explaining that workers in the sphere of education are not supposed to post such indecent photos on social media. The school authorities followed the requests of the parents and Victoria lost her job.
In her interview, Victoria explained that her photos were not promoting anything inappropriate and were simply a part of her training. After all, they were not supposed to become public because it was not her who posted them, but a fashion magazine.
Victoria wasn’t the only person that felt this was unfair — thousands of teachers around Russia started to post their swimsuit and bikini photos on Instagram and other social media.
They created a flash mob #TeachersAreHumansToo supporting Victoria and saying that being a teacher doesn’t mean you are forbidden to post swimsuit photos and be punished for it.
Even cold weather was not an obstacle for taking the right picture and participating in the flash mob.
Men also stood up for Victoria and posted their photos with naked torsos.
The photo album of the flash mob has many different people — young and old, women and men, with and without kids — the main point was to prove that swimsuit photos are not offensive or inappropriate and that people visiting beaches including teachers usually wear swimsuits, not spacesuits.
Some people even used their sense of humor and showed which clothes society is expecting to see teachers in.
The protest was heard by the authorities of Omsk, and the decision was reconsidered both by the school authorities and the authorities of the Ministry of Education. Victoria Popova was asked to return to her job and she agreed to accept the proposal.
