7 Fashion Mistakes That Can Cramp Your Style

From picking accessories to choosing your attire, it’s easy to make small mistakes that can ruin all your efforts to look classy. On the other hand, if your entire outfit is chosen correctly, it can make you a show-stopper.
In this Bright Side article, you’ll find handy suggestions on how to stay on top and avoid uncomfortable situations when it comes to your look.
1. Picking the wrong earrings for your face shape.

This might seem like a small detail, but picking the wrong kind of earrings can make your face appear disproportionate. Here are some tips that can help you:
- For oval faces, you can pick any type of earrings. The main thing is to not overload your look with accessories.
- For round faces, long earrings are the best choice.
- For heart-shaped faces, earrings with elongated lines and curves are best.
- For square-shaped faces, try elongated, hooped, and dangling earrings.
- For narrow faces, long, dangling earrings are your best bet.
2. Wearing clothes that are either too small or too large.
If you are one of those people who picks up clothes that look good on the mannequin without trying them on first; stop. However awesome the dress might look on the mannequin, if it is too tight and shows off the extra fat you gained during a weekend party, it makes no sense to wear it.
The same is true about the opposite spectrum of dressing. If you have to pull your jeans up every 20 minutes, then this pair of jeans is not for you.
3. Going for overly decorative clothes
The extra ruffles and folds can make you look a couple of sizes bigger than you actually are. And you don’t want that for sure. It is best to keep your style simple, yet elegant.
Overly decorative clothes need special care while cleaning and their upkeep time can be high as well. No matter how beautiful a dress might be, if it’s not clean, it will destroy your look.
4. Over accessorizing
Keeping it simple and chic should be the mantra. You want people to look at your beautiful face and not get distracted by your dangly earrings, bracelets, necklaces, or any other accessories you’ve managed to put on. Just because you own multiple pieces of jewelry, does not mean you have to wear them all at the same time.
But accessories, if used judiciously, can really complete your look. A business look would never be complete without a wristwatch. But if you couple it with bracelets, then that’s overkill.
5. Putting on clothes with wide horizontal stripes
Wide, horizontal stripes are a complete no-no for a large majority of the population. So unless you are very sure that you can pull them off, or you’re going to a wide-horizontal-stripes costume party, it’s best to stay away from these.
Horizontal stripes accentuate the wrong features of your body. A better option would be to go for either a dress in a solid color or a dress with a tiny print.
6. Not buying for your body type
If you’re curvy and short, it’s better to avoid wearing wide pants, because they will add extra weight to your look. However, trousers that stop a couple of inches below the knee are completely suitable.
Wide pants will go better with a triangle-shaped body and compliment skinny and tall women best.
For a pear-shaped body, it’s better to add some layers to your torso and accentuate your waist with a belt. This will make your body look more proportionate.
7. Dressing out of place
Being dressed inappropriately can be embarrassing. You wouldn’t want to show up at an interview wearing a pair of jeans or go camping in the woods in a tuxedo. If in doubt, you can always call your host or the receptionist at the company to find out about what attire is suitable.
