Goldie Hawn Reveals Why She Hasn’t Married Kurt Russell After 39 Years Together

Among adults between the ages of 18 and 44, 59% of them have lived with a partner without tying the knot. In fact, 50% of adults have never been married. Nowadays, love and marriage can be separate, and everyone can build their relationships in ways they’d like to keep them strong. Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell are the perfect example of how 2 people in love can spend 39 years together and never get bored.

The couple met on the set of The One and Only, Genuine, Original Family Band back in 1966, but that’s not when they started to date. “I was 21 and he was 16,” says Goldie Hawn, remembering the past.

Their second meeting took place in 1983 on the set of Swing Shift, and this time they didn’t miss the chance to get to know one another. “Then, years later, we met up again, and I remembered that I liked him very much when I first met him,” recalled Hawn. “We both said we would never go out with another actor, so it just shows you never can tell.”

Life turned out in such a way that before they started to date, Hawn was married once and had 2 children — Kate and Oliver Hudson — from the previous marriage. Russell had one son from his marriage with Susan Hubley.

As of today, Hawn and Russell have managed to remain a couple for more than 39 years. They have one common child together, Wyatt Russell. Despite spending all this time together, they still love and support each other, and there is one important reason why their relationship has managed to stay so strong.

“I think the secret is to know when to depend on somebody and when not to,” Hawn explained in an interview. “It’s important that you are able to hold up your side of the house. I believe that one person can’t bear the whole burden because then their shoulders start getting heavy. The other part is to stay as sexy as you can and make sure you focus on all of those aspects of a healthy relationship — and sexuality is definitely one of them.”

Hawn says that for a great long-term relationship, you need to spend 68% of your time together.

Still, some people may wonder why such a successful couple didn’t follow social norms and get married. "For people like us, the marriage certificate wasn’t going to create anything that otherwise we wouldn’t have,’’ Russell commented. For them, a healthy relationship is not a signature on a piece of paper.

Hawn thinks that just because you’re married doesn’t mean you’re happy. It’s just about the people involved and a desire to stay together.

Well, we’re not at 40 years yet. Our children got married. I mean, they didn’t not get married. Oliver’s very happily married and Wyatt’s very happily married. Katie got married once and that didn’t work, and she’s with this most amazing human and I don’t know if she’ll marry again,” Hawn dished.

“The point is that we all tried marriage and sometimes marriage doesn’t work.” The actress went on further to say that you need to feel gratitude because “it’s good for your brain and your heart and your health.”

Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell did it their own way and didn’t listen to anything but their hearts. We wish everyone to have such a happy and healthy relationship and to do things their own way.

Is it important for you to get married if you love each other? Why?
