Why Friendships That Last More Than 10 Years Are Special

If you’ve been friends with someone for over 10 years, then you should be glad because your friendship stood the test of time. You may have a lot of friends but not everyone is as special as the person that comes to mind when you’re reading this. And the good thing about friendships is that they age like fine wine — the older the friendship is, the better!

We at Bright Side were happy to find out that friendships that last longer than 10 years are pretty special. And if you have a 10-year-long friend, you’ll likely relate to the following.

1. They know the real you.

If you’ve been friends with someone for over 10 years, there’s no way they don’t know the real you. In fact, they probably know you so well that sometimes you become surprised by how well they can read you. You can’t hide anything from them and without saying any words, you both understand each other.

2. Distance doesn’t hurt the friendship.

It would be great to remain close to your friend and see them anytime you want, but sometimes life has different plans and you end up being far away from each other. But the good thing about this is that it won’t hurt the value of the friendship. Being friends for over 10 years has its perks, and one of them is that you can count on the foundation of the friendship to remain intact, even if you don’t see each other for a long time. And when you do see each other, you have a big reunion that is bound to be full of giant, mushy hugs.

3. You can always count on each other, even if sometimes you don’t talk for weeks.

The good thing about long-lasting friendships is that you both know that sometimes you can be too busy to even pick up the phone and there are no hard feelings about it. Your friend won’t get mad about it, and sometimes it can be weeks until both of you have a proper chat. And when you finally do, it’ll be like nothing has changed and you’ll pick up right where you left off.

4. You both know each other’s deepest secrets.

There’s a reason why your friendship stood the test of time, and that’s because both of you understand each other so well. When someone’s been friends with you for a long time, you’re bound to spill the beans and tell them all your deepest secrets. You’re open with one another, and even if you’re not the touchy-feely type, you probably tell your friend more than most people know about you.

5. They know your most embarrassing stories.

10 years is a long period of time. And during that time, you’ve likely been there to witness some truly embarrassing moments. But unfortunately, friends never let you forget those embarrassing stories — even if they happened forever ago! Your friend will always be there to remind you of that stupid thing you did, whether you like it or not...

6. You have a ton of crazy stories of your past adventures.

There was likely a time when you went on a crazy adventure together and you’ll always bring up those great memories. You may be leading different lives now, but you’ll always remember the “good times” when you did crazy — and sometimes stupid — things together. And you both know that those are the memories that count in the long run.

7. You were there for all the big moments.

Graduations, job promotions, marriages, and birthdays — you’ve both been there for all the big moments in life. Even if you’re incredibly busy these days, there’s no way you’re going to miss your best friend’s big moment. No matter what, you always have time to get together to celebrate the things that matter.

8. They’ve seen you at your best and at your worst.

Your friend knows the real version of you. Some people may know only the tip of the iceberg, but your friend has seen you in your most raw, unfiltered form. They’ve been with you through the rough moments and they’ve been with you when you’ve shined the brightest. And that’s why your friendship is special because you know it’s true.

9. They’ll be there for you for a lifetime.

There’s no getting away now — you’re in it for the long haul! You’ve been together through thick and thin and since you made it this far, your friendship is likely going to last quite a while longer.
