Besides being a world-renowned singer, Céline Dion is also a movie star! At 55 and while coping with a rare and progressive neurological condition, Dion is acting for the first time on the big screen with a main part in the romantic comedy Love Again.

She stars as herself in the movie.

Céline Dion released her first album at just 13 years old, in 1981, and since then she’s been building an iconic career. Now, decades later, she managed to achieve a new milestone — starring in a movie, all while battling a disease.

The Canadian singer is featured in Love Again, which premiered on May 5th, 2023, and she acts alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Outlander star Sam Heughan. In the romantic comedy-drama, she plays a fictionalized version of herself.

Dion has already expressed her joy at being part of the cast. “To have the privilege of appearing with the beautiful and talented actors Priyanka Chopra Jonas and Sam Heughan in my very first feature film is a gift that I will cherish forever,” she said. “I think it’s a wonderful feel-good story, and I hope that people will like it, and like the new songs too.”

The songs Dion mentioned are the 11 tracks from the singer, which were “woven into the narrative of the film and its characters,” the first new music from her since revealing her Stiff-Person Syndrome diagnosis. The official lyric video of the main single, named after the movie, has already gathered over 2 million views on YouTube.

She was diagnosed with Stiff-Person Syndrome in 2022.

In December 2022, Dion released a video on Instagram where she opened up about health issues that led her to cancel and postpone shows, specifically a disease that had only then been diagnosed: Stiff-Person Syndrome. This progressive neurological condition affects several body muscles but can also cause higher sensitivity to noise, touch, and emotional distress.

In February 2023, Dion’s sister, Claudette, said that she believed the singer would triumph over the issue. “I am confident that life will give her back what she gave because she is an extremely intelligent woman, so very generous and talented and in love with life as well,” she said in an interview. “Rather than crying over her fate, I try to send her positive vibes in the hope that one day she will go back on stage.”

And this isn’t the first time Céline Dion has had to fight against the odds and prove her strength. Her journey so far hasn’t been easy, and she has had to overcome other hardships in her life. As fans, we can take inspiration from her determination and resilience through it all.
