Reese Witherspoon Admits She Won’t Make “Legally Blonde 3” Without Jennifer Coolidge

year ago

Reese Witherspoon has been featured in over 40 films throughout her decades-long career, but the 2001 flick Legally Blonde is still one of her most iconic and loved works. It has spawned a sequel, Legally Blonde 2, and even a relatively unknown spin-off. However, people are still eager for more and the actress is down to return to her role as Elle Woods. But there’s one condition that needs to be met for that to happen.

Witherspoon shows unconditional support for her co-star.

In an interview, the American actress talked about the third installment in the Legally Blonde movie series, which was confirmed to be in the making by Witherspoon herself in a now-deleted post on Instagram. She also mentioned how crucial it is for her that Jennifer Coolidge is also part of the project. “There is no Legally Blonde 3 without Jennifer Coolidge,” Witherspoon stated about her co-star who played Paulette Bonafonté, a manicurist, in the first 2 films of the franchise.

Witherspoon also took time to gush about Coolidge’s newfound success. “I’m beyond myself about Jennifer Coolidge,” she said. “She deserves every one of those flowers she is receiving right now. And she’s just one of those people who is so naturally gifted and funny and that you can just tell people love her, ’cause she gets up there and everybody’s like, ’I love her,’ but she’s just done a lot of good work in our business for so long, that it’s really nice to see her getting this incredible moment.”

Jennifer Coolidge is excited about Legally Blonde 3.

Coolidge, who’s currently riding a wave of success after receiving wide critical acclaim for her role as Tanya McQuoid in the series The White Lotus (winning her a Golden Globe for her performance) is looking forward to joining the cast of Legally Blonde 3. However, the 61-year-old actress has yet to receive an official invitation to be part of the project.

“I know nothing, I mean I don’t know if they wanted to surprise me or something, ’cause I hear about it a lot,” she admitted in an interview. “I heard that Mindy [Kaling] has this amazing version of our next round, but I haven’t seen it. I don’t have the call yet.”

Even so, Mindy Kaling, The Office star and writer of Legally Blonde 3, has made it clear that Coolidge’s character has already been written into the new script and that the actress will “1,000 percent” be returning for the next installment.
