In 1999, Christina Aguilera launched her first debut album and instantly climbed to the top of the Billboard pop charts. Her first single, Genie In A Bottle, the song that we still listen to today even after 23 years, made the world fall in love with Christina’s music. And today, she is one of the best-selling female music artists of all time. So, to honor Christina on her day, we are celebrating her birthday by learning more about her private and professional life.

Christina’s parents separated when she was 6 years old and, together with her mother, they moved in with her grandmother. Later in life, Aguilera had to fight to get through her past traumas because of the relationship she had with her father, and that’s why she now takes a holistic approach to her well-being.

Aguilera wanted to be a singer since she was a child, and she was locally known for her “golden voice.” In 1990, when she was 10 years old, she appeared on a TV Show called Star Search where contestants competed in several genres of entertainment, but sadly, she didn’t win the contest. That TV appearance, though, made the kids from the 2 middle schools she attended criticize her even more, despite the fact that she was truly talented.

Her first self-titled debut album Christina Aguilera is her best-selling album so far.

The album debuted at number 1 on the US Billboard 200, and a whopping 253,000 copies were sold within the first week. Christina’s first album is one of the best-selling female albums, with over 14 million copies sold worldwide. It also earned her a Grammy Award for Best New Artist at the 42nd Annual Grammy Awards.

She got divorced when she was 31 years old.

Christina and Jordan Bratman met when she was only 21 and got married 3 years later, at age 24. For her, Bratman represented love, stability, and safety — qualities she never got from a male figure growing up. But even though she felt they could spend the rest of their lives together, not everything ends as we originally planned. For years, the couple tried to make it work for the sake of their son, but nothing worked, and they separated after 5 years of marriage.

Christina has been engaged to Matthew Rutler for 8 years now and they don’t plan to wed just yet.

Christina and her fiancé, who is 5 years younger, met back in 2010 and later started dating. In 2014, Matthew popped the question, and Christina said yes, and they have been happily engaged ever since. That same year, the couple also welcomed their daughter, who brought even more joy to the family.

Christina and Matthew don’t want to rush marriage, and they want to do it on their own schedule. “Our love is secure enough that we don’t need a wedding to prove our love and commitment,” revealed Christina.

She struggled with depression and anxiety because of her childhood traumas.

Christina explains it as “a constant battle to overcome a mind that is anxious, a mind that is always second-guessing.” But writing, getting outside, feeling the grass under her feet, looking at trees and clouds, and doing yoga are the things that help her maintain good mental health.
