Meghan has caused a lot of commotion since she started dating and then married Prince Harry. Oprah Winfrey also supports Meghan, “I think she’s being portrayed unfairly. I feel that if people really knew her, they’d know that she has a wonderful warm, giving, funny heart. I see all the crazy press around her, and I think it’s really unfair.” She also confirmed that the duchess avoids the negative press about her.

4. She’s actively engaged in humanitarian work.

A charity campaigner who worked in India with Prince Harry and Meghan says she’s a “true humanitarian and exceedingly genuine.” It’s not the only humanitarian work she’s done. She’s also a United Nations ambassador. She went to Rwanda with World Vision Canada and India to support women and girls living in slums. Moreover, she also wrote a really powerful essay for TIME about fighting the shame and discrimination surrounding menstruation.

5. She supports women and gender equality.

Believe it or not, she first spoke up against sexism when she was only 11! Meghan also thinks it’s important to listen to what women have to say.

“I hear a lot of people speaking about girls’ empowerment and women’s empowerment — you will hear people saying they are helping women find their voices. I fundamentally disagree with that because women don’t need to find their voices, they need to be empowered to use them and people need to be urged to listen.”
