Research by Anthony Abbate, Joshua Campbell, and colleagues at Auburn University and the USDA tested 8 native wildflower species specifically recommended for pollinator conservation and found that most produced significantly more seeds when pollinators were allowed to visit freely, real, measurable proof of just how much bees, butterflies, and native plants depend on each other to thrive.

Nearly 80% of all flowering plants on Earth rely on pollinators to reproduce in the first place. So while the tomatoes wind down for the season, a few wildflowers tucked along the fence line end up doing more than just looking pretty.
