Soul singer Minnie Riperton’s ‘Lovin’ You’ became a No. 1 hit in 1975. The melody began as a lullaby she sang to her baby girl, and as the album version fades out, Riperton sings the girl’s name: “Maya, Maya, Maya, Maya.”

That baby is Maya Rudolph. She became a star on ‘Saturday Night Live,’ and in April 2026 she made her Broadway debut as Mary Todd Lincoln in the comedy ‘Oh, Mary!’

Lenny Kravitz, photographed here at the Oscars in 2010, married actress Lisa Bonet, the star of a hit 1980s family sitcom, in 1987. Their daughter was born the next year and grew up in Topanga, California, where her mom kept TV to a minimum.

That daughter is Zoë Kravitz. She played Catwoman in ‘The Batman’ in 2022, directed her first movie in 2024 and got her first Emmy nomination in 2025.

Robert Pine played Sgt. Joe Getraer, the boss of the motorcycle cops on NBC’s ‘CHiPs,’ from 1977 to 1983, and has appeared in hundreds of TV episodes since. His wife, Gwynne Gilford, was an actress too. Their son was born in 1980.

That son is Chris Pine. In 2009 he took over the role of Captain James T. Kirk in ‘Star Trek,’ and he has played him in three movies.

Jerry Stiller and Anne Meara were a married comedy team. As Stiller & Meara, they were regulars on ‘The Ed Sullivan Show’ in the 1960s, and Jerry later played Frank Costanza on ‘Seinfeld.’

Their son is Ben Stiller, the star of ‘Zoolander’ and ‘Night at the Museum.’ He also directs the series ‘Severance,’ which earned him Emmy nominations for directing in 2022 and 2025.

Meg Ryan, shown here in 1983 on the soap opera ‘As the World Turns,’ went on to star in ‘When Harry Met Sally...,’ ‘Sleepless in Seattle’ and ‘You’ve Got Mail.’ Her son with actor Dennis Quaid was born in 1992.

He is Jack Quaid, who played Hughie, the lead of ‘The Boys,’ from 2019 to 2026, and physicist Richard Feynman in ‘Oppenheimer.’ In April 2026, he married actress Claudia Doumit in Australia.

Bob Dylan was 21 in this 1963 photo. In 2016, he became the first songwriter to win the Nobel Prize in Literature. His youngest son was born in 1969.

That son is Jakob Dylan, who formed the Wallflowers in 1989. Their 1996 hit ‘One Headlight’ won two Grammys. Later, he made the documentary ‘Echo in the Canyon’ about the Los Angeles music scene of the 1960s, the decade his father became famous.

John Ritter, photographed in 1977, the year ‘Three’s Company’ began, played the clumsy, charming Jack Tripper for eight seasons and won an Emmy for the role. He was himself the son of singing cowboy Tex Ritter.

His son Jason Ritter voiced Dipper Pines in the cartoon ‘Gravity Falls’ and Ryder in ‘Frozen II,’ and in 2026 he joined the cast of a hit HBO drama.

Director Judd Apatow and actress Leslie Mann, photographed together in 2012, married in 1997, and he cast her in several of his comedies. Their older daughter appeared in two of them as a child, playing her own mother’s daughter.

She is Maude Apatow, who played Lexi Howard on ‘Euphoria’ from 2019 to 2026. In September 2025 she premiered her first film as a director, ‘Poetic License,’ starring her mom.

Johnny Cash sang on stage in Bremen, Germany, in September 1972. His eldest daughter, Rosanne, was born in 1955.

Rosanne Cash had a crossover hit with ‘Seven Year Ache’ in 1981. In May 2026, the Library of Congress added her album ‘The Wheel’ to the National Recording Registry and said it was “the first time a daughter and father have both been included in the registry.” Her father’s famous live album was chosen in 2003.
