There is something so special, creative, and satisfying about making something by yourself. You spend hours on it, even mess it up at times, and start again. The final product is a physical reminder of your love, dedication, and patience. It could be anything — from a sweater to a blanket — but it can mean much more when someone knows you spent your time making it for them.

Made this tube of toothpaste with a cap that opens to reveal a blob of toothpaste! It is human-sized (150 cm). My boyfriend is a big fan of pregnancy pillows so he enjoys this one a lot. Took around 80 hours to design + crochet.

I made a custom “polly pocket” set for my wife.

• I worked as a janitor for 27 years while raising my son, taking care of everything alone. For my grandson’s fifth birthday, I didn’t have much money, so I knitted him a sweater. It took me about three weeks but I thought the final piece was worth all the trouble. I added his favorite superhero, Spider-Man, on it.
  When my son saw it, he smirked and said, “Be honest. You picked this up from the trash, right?” In front of so many people. I was humiliated. Before I could say anything, my grandson grabbed the sweater from him and said, “Daddy, the truth is this is the best gift I got today! Spiderman!!!”
  He pulled it over his head and ran off to play. So many expensive gifts but he liked mine the best. My DIL texted me later that night with a picture of him still wearing it. He slept in it too haha. That was enough for me.
