Home Garden Ideas That Show What You Can Do With a Small Patch of Space

You don’t need a huge backyard to create a garden that feels like your own little world. A narrow strip along the balcony, a forgotten corner in your room, or even a tiny space by the windows can be enough to grow something beautiful. These real home gardens show just how much people have managed to do with the space they had, and some of the ideas are surprisingly clever!

3 years between these photos!

My Devils Ivy is most definitely the show-stopper in my home.

My Instagram friends don’t appreciate my plant window. I’m hoping you all will. Happy planting!

Our apartment!

My grandmother planted these at my home before she passed. They’ve come back every year. More recently, my grandfather took some from our yard and planted them in his. Here is the result.

  • My grandma (74) started locking herself in her room. Barely talked to anyone and wouldn’t let us in. Whenever I asked what was wrong, she’d just say, “It’s not a kid’s matter.” Then I noticed she was sneaking out every night around 11.
I checked our security camera because I was starting to worry, and went cold when I saw she kept walking toward an abandoned house a few minutes away. One night I followed her and found her digging around in the overgrown garden behind it. She was rescuing orchids.
Apparently, the woman who used to live there had a whole garden, but after she passed, the house was left empty and everything got completely overgrown. My grandma noticed that some of the orchids were still somehow surviving, so she was going out at night to dig up the ones that could be saved and bring them home.
Her room was basically a gorgeous little greenhouse by then, with pots all over the windowsill and dresser. I asked why she never told us, and she just said, “I didn’t you’d understand.” She’s been coming downstairs more since the orchids started blooming.
