Woman Gives Birth to Identical Triplets Who Become OB-GYN Doctors, Just Like Her

In an awe-inspiring twist of fate, a mom gave birth to identical triplet daughters, and little did she know that one day her beloved daughters would be working alongside her. The three daughters chose the same career path as their momma, and their story showcases the power of genetics, passion, and a strong family bond.

A supermom who did it all.

Dr. Janet Gersten, after completing her graduation with honors, started her private practice as one of the first female OB/GYNs in south Miami in 1983. Some years later, she founded her own private clinical research site.

Being pregnant with triplets was a surprise as there were no such cases in the family, but Janet handled it like a boss. At 35 weeks, she had to have a c section to avoid further complications in the pregnancy.

An unexpected fate.

The girls, Vicky, Sarah, and Joanna, were eight when they first saw their mom delivering a baby. While Sarah was in awe at how confidently her mother handled the situation, Vicky stood against the wall, and Joanna was horrified.

“Three things definitely stick out in my mind,” she recalls. “One, I did not expect the baby’s head to be so big. Two, it was the first time I ever felt like I was going to faint. And three, I definitely don’t want to be an OB-GYN.”

But as they grew up, their interest in the field grew too. Gertsen reveals she never pushed any of her children to follow her path, and they did it out of their own will. In 2017, the daughters completed their respective medical residencies and joined their mother’s practice.

It runs in the family.

Interestingly, the triplets’ father was also a doctor. Dr. Robert Bedell, OB-GYN, practiced in South Florida for several decades until he retired. He continued to work as a Palliative Care physician until he passed away in 2013.

Now 70-years-old Gresten is proud of her daughters and grateful that she gets to work with them. “I am one of the luckiest mothers around to be able to do that,” she admits.

And her daughters share the same sentiment, “I love that I don’t roll my eyes when I say I have to go to work. I love that we are all on the same team and that I trust them.”

To Vicky, Sarah, and Joanna, their mother is a hero. “Our mother, Dr. Janet Gersten, has been in practice for over 35 years. She’s a go-getter, role model, trailblazer, and our forever inspiration. We are eternally grateful to have her as our leader!” they shared in a sweet post for their mother.

We can only imagine how lucky these women must feel to be each other’s coworkers! In a similar twist of events, a family of five flew an airplane as a cabin crew. Check out their incredible story here.
