4.20 billion people are using social media nowadays, researchers say. As we spend our time scrolling, searching, and surfing, we experience fewer offline interactions. Thus, 7.86 million people are using online dating apps, hoping to find love. But is it actually possible to find true love online? As it turns out, it is.

We at Bright Side found out which of our favorite celebrities managed to find love online and want to share the findings with our readers.

1. Priyanka Chopra and Nick Jonas

Back in 2018, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra had not 1 but 2 wedding days — a Western ceremony first, followed by a traditional Hindu wedding. Remarkably, the romance that led to a fairy-tale wedding started with Jonas sending Chopra a Twitter DM. “I’m hearing from a few mutual friends that we should meet,” Jonas wrote, and the rest is history.

2. Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner

Another Jonas brother, Joe Jonas, experienced romance that started online. He and his wife, Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner, got engaged in 2017. But before they even met, mutual friends tried to introduce them to one another for a long time, but nothing ever worked out. “We were following each other on Instagram and he direct-messaged me one fine day, out of the blue,” Turner shared. Since then, Jonas and Turner have welcomed their first baby daughter, Willa.

3. Taylor Goldsmith and Mandy Moore

Mandy Moore, one of the stars of the TV series, This Is Us, also thanks Instagram for setting her up with her fiancé, a musician and frontman for the group, Dawes, Taylor Goldsmith. “I took a picture of the [Dawes] album and posted it on Instagram,” shared Moore. “Somehow, Taylor saw it and sent a note to me. We started emailing back and forth, then we went on a date, and the rest is history.”

4. Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams

Sarah Hyland and Wells Adams’ love story could serve as a plot for a romantic comedy. Adams participated in the twelfth season of the American hit TV show, The Bachelorette. Hyland was watching the show and thought that Adams was quite cute, so she tweeted about it. “And that’s how our love story began,” she said. After Adams saw the tweet, he slid into Sarah’s DMs, which led to long online conversations and, eventually, real-life dates.

5. Joel Dommett and Hannah Cooper

Joel Dommett, an English comedian and actor, also met his wife, Hannah Cooper, online. She was the one who texted first. “We met on this silly social platform,” Dommett shared. “She sent me a DM simply containing [cat heart eyes emoji] — and I will never tire of telling people she messaged me first.” Dommett and Cooper got married in 2019.

6. Dylan Sprouse and Barbara Palvin

Before Dylan Sprouse texted Barbara Palvin for the first time, she “followed me [on Instagram], so I was like, I guess I’ll give her something. And I slid into her DMs,” shared Sprouse in an interview he gave with Palvin. However, Palvin was not quite ready to reply: “I knew I wasn’t in a good mindset at the time, and maybe deep inside I knew that it could be something more,” she shared. The pause lasted for 6 months.

Before going to China for a 6-month-long movie shoot, the manager asked Sprouse whether there was something he wanted to finish up. “And for the first time in 6 months, Barbara popped in my head and I thought, I wish I had time to take this girl on a date,” Sprouse said. 10 minutes later, Palvin sent him a message.

7. Brittany Snow and Tyler Stanaland

Tyler Stanaland reached out to Brittany Snow, the Pitch Perfect star, through social media. “We had a bunch of friends in common, and he actually reached out to me on Instagram with a really lame pickup line,” Snow shared. But it seems like the trick worked. In 2020, Stanaland and Snow got married and are currently living happily ever after.

8. Sarah Paulson and Holland Taylor

During her interview on the show, Watch What Happens Live, Sarah Paulson shared that the beginning of her and Holland Taylor’s relationships was “a Twitter thing.” Turns out, Taylor was the one who slid into Paulson’s direct messages and started the romance.

9. Dua Lipa and Anwar Hadid

In May 2020, singer and model Dua Lipa said in an interview on Watch What Happens Live that she herself slid into her boyfriend (and the brother to and Bella and Gigi Hadid), Anwar Hadid’s direct messages before they started dating. “I have a confession to make, and mine was my boyfriend, so my current boyfriend,” she said. And although Lipa and Hadid had met before, the message she sent on Instagram that day carried on their relationship.

10. Ricky Martin and Jwan Yosef

Ricky Martin, a singer and actor, met his husband, Jwan Yosef, on Instagram. “I met my fiancé on Instagram. I’m an art collector, and he’s an artist. I wrote to him, and then we were talking for like, 6 months without me hearing his voice,” Martin shared. Later on, they met in London and have been living happily ever after since then.
