10 Stars Who Were Besties Way Before Fame Came Knocking at Their Door
Research has shown that people who had close friends early in life are less likely to show signs of depression in early adulthood. However, rare are those early friendships that continue into adulthood and beyond. And that makes us wonder whether there is a secret recipe to making a friendship work in the long run. Or perhaps it’s simply destiny and a sprinkle of good luck that allows 2 people to always be a perfect match, having met early on in life.
Bright Side is fascinated by friendships between people under the spotlight because they tell us a lot about our favorite stars’ personalities. That being said, here are 10 famous duos who became really close at a very young age, and some have stayed that way even after reaching the top in Hollywood.
1. Michael Douglas and Danny DeVito
They are undoubtedly Hollywood icons these days, but their friendship began way before they both had established their careers. In fact, the pair met 55 years ago, in 1967, at the beach when they were both 23 years old — Douglas described his encounter with DeVito as “the beginning of a long, long friendship.”
2. Kim Kardashian and Nicole Richie
Both TV personalities were friends way before being under the spotlight. Kardashian even had posted on her social media a throwback picture with Richie when they were 13-years-old. The childhood friends also sat together at the wedding reception of their other famous friend, Paris Hilton, and posed for photos during Paris Fashion Week, 20 years after their teenage photo was taken.
3. Nicole Kidman and Naomi Watts
The Hollywood actresses met at one of Sydney’s top all-girls high schools and have been close friends ever since. They both appeared together on screen in a 1991 movie and expressed their desire for reuniting on a new project once again. Watts revealed that she and Kidman ’’have been talking about it for too long, we’ve gotta make it happen." She added, ’’We’re definitely continuing to search for the right piece of material."
4. Elijah Wood and Macaulay Culkin
The 2 child stars met in the 1990s and even starred together on screen at age 12 in the 1993 movie, The Good Son. When asked if they are still friends, Culkin replied on his social page, ’’Of course, we’re friends,’’ as a funny nod to their movie.
5. Kate Hudson and Liv Tyler
Both celebrities have famous parents: Tyler is the daughter of rockstar Steven Tyler, and Hudson calls actress Goldie Hawn and Bill Hudson “mom and dad.” Both girls are childhood friends who attended high school together. They are still friends today and pay homage to each other on social media.
6. Tobey Maguire and Leonardo DiCaprio
The stars who started their careers as child actors used to bump into each other at auditions. DiCaprio explained that he and Maguire had many things in common, such as being born in L.A. and raised by single moms. They appeared together in the 1993 movie, A Boy’s Life, when they were just teenagers. Both actors seem to be really close as adults as they are often spotted hanging out together.
7. Britney Spears and Christina Aguilera
The pop stars met as teenagers in the early 1990s, when they were cast as members of the All New Mickey Mouse Club. They went on to have successful careers, with Spears releasing her first single in 1998, and Aguilera, a year later.
8. Laura Linney and Brooke Shields
Shields posted a throwback photo on her Instagram a day after Linney had celebrated her fifty-sixth birthday, revealing that they had been childhood friends. She captioned the photo, ’’Went way back into the archives for this one.’’
9. Demi Lovato and Selena Gomez
Gomez and Lovato are both child actresses and had worked together as kids on Barney & Friends. They became close friends in their teen years when both were starring on Disney Channel shows. However, their friendship has gone through some highs and lows over the years, and it was reported that the pair are no longer close at the moment.
10. Ryan Gosling and Justin Timberlake
Both actors met back in 1993 as tweens thanks to The Mickey Mouse Club. Timberlake’s mom had even become Gosling’s legal guardian during the last 6 months of filming after the Canadian actor’s mom had to go back to her job. The singer had revealed, “We were probably a little closer than the rest of the kids that were on the show just because we had to share a bathroom.”
